Movie Review: Watch it again and again.
Summary: 5 Stars
Simply put, the closest you'll get to seeing the other worlds of spirit and true reality without taking Ayahuasca or Peyote.
The director took over a hundred trips on Ayahuasca, helped by a real shaman (the old Indian in the film!). The effects portray as close as possible the reality of the experience.
Mind blowing stuff. The last time I watched it I fast forwarded through the slow parts, stopping at the key plot elements, and also stopping to savour the trippy parts. Madsen is great in this, and everyone acts well.
Anyone contemplating taking the shamanic journey would do well to watch this to get a taste of the heaven and hell it can lead to.
Movie Review: One of my all time favorites

The movie starts a little slow as it spends some time building up the characters, however it's well worth it. The story that unfolds is anything but what you'd expect from a Hollywood western. I really enjoyed the visuals, the music, and the complex characters. Michael Madison should have won an award for his role as the villain.
I'd recommend this movie first for people who are looking for something unique and different from what Hollywood is pushing. Second, for anyone interested in the Old West and/or Shamanic journeys.
This film is both incredibly beautiful and unique, one of my all time favorites.
Movie Review: you won't find hollywood here, this is a masterpiece

Maybe all the people that gave this film a bad review were expecting the classic hollywood movie where everything must be explained to the last detail. That's why they didn't get it. Of course there's a plot in here, but not the typical plot of love, revenge or whatever. This is about a man seeking direction in life and getting rid of his demons.
Needless to say, every scene in the movie is beautiful and Chihuahua's mountains and deserts has a lot to do with it.
IMO this is one of the best films i've seen, if you like movies away from ordinary this one's for you.
Movie Review: This movie is wonderful!

I have never heard of the comic on which this movie is based (and when I saw this movie, I didn't even know it was based on a comic) and I usually really dislike westerns. But this was no ordinary western - it was a brilliant metaphysical work!
For those who like westerns or the comic on which it is based, as other reviewers already said, you will probably not dig this. But, if you like spiritual/visionary/visually trippy type films (think What Dreams May Come, Pi, The Wall, even Field of Dreams), then you will probably enjoy this.

When one peruses the aisles of films at a movie rental shop or even online, he would most likely pass over this one with a recognition of indifference. Even for its genre (Western) it may not catch the eye of a potential viewer due to its fairly non enticing cover. I myself did not know what to expect. BUT YOU NEED TO CHECK OUT THIS MOVIE! It is so amazing! It is nothing like any western or any other film for that matter. It is SO well done in terms of its cinematography and visuals. The story is also very pleasing. Check it out!
