Movie Reviews of Reform School GirlsMovie Review: Yow! Summary: 5 Stars
I watched this dvd last night and here are ten (10) observations:1. This film is probably not going to inspire anyone to do anything. No one is going to say "Gee, seeing Reform School Girls" was the turning point in my life and that's why I'm so successful today." This is probably not likely, but who knows... Stranger things have happened. 2. There's not a lot to think about here. "Reform School Girls" is not exactly intellectually challenging. The best thing to do while watching this is to have a beer and maybe start doing the laundry. 3. The cover for the dvd shows Sybil Danning, but Wendy O. Williams got the top billing. I could care less about Sybil Danning. What I would have liked to see on the cover would have been Williams wearing shaving cream and electrical tape with a chain saw. That would have been a great cover. 4. Wendy O. Williams? acting ability was pretty one-dimensional, but that's okay because the film isn't supposed to make any sense anyway. I especially like the part where Williams gets on top of the runaway bus, because it absolutely made no sense at all. 5. The end title song, "It's My Life" was written by Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons. This is an example of how the ideas of Gene Simmons have systematically perverted the nature of our culture for years. 6. If you buy this dvd, watch the trailers first. They're funny. 7. The Commentary by director Tom DeSimone and humorist Martin Lewis is pretty good too. 8. If you're a Wendy O. Williams fan, this dvd is worth having. In the last part of the film, she basically goes nuts, and I think it's commendable that someone was able to capture that on film. 9. As spoof, "Reform School Girls" works pretty well, on a very simple level. Other than Williams, the characters really don't mean anything and the story could easily have been replaced with anything else about women in prison. 10. The bottom line is, "Reform School Girls" is a far more interesting and plausible story than "The English Patient".
Movie Review: No! Not The Hot Box!... Summary: 5 Stars
Welcome to Pridemore reform school for wayward young ladies, where über-bimbos rule! Once inside, you'll be issued the standard uniform of a shirt and naughty underwear. You'll be subjected to immediate humiliation as a "new fish", forced to receive the red-hot branding of Charlie (Wendy O. Williams!!!!) or face the dire consequences of refusal! You will also meet the eeevil Edna (Pat Ast), the sadistic head-screw! She will introduce you to her own special kind of discipline! Soon, you will be brought before Sutter (Sybil Danning), the warden. She's a lot like a low-key version of Ilsa: She-Wolf of the SS! She runs Pridemore like a concentration camp for girls! There's hard labor at Pridemore, in the form of standing around in the scorching sun, digging in the dirt for no apparent reason. You'll reside in Dorm 14, where the bad girls sleep (when they're not fighting and / or running around in their underwear.)! Of course, most of the time you'll be prancing around in your underwear, so get used to the idea! We've got brawls, cat-fights, nudity, brutality, nudity, subjugation of the weak, nudity, riots, murder, food-fights, noooodity, etc. If the thought of being cornered in the bathroom by Wendy O. Williams and her gang (all in their interesting underthings) intrigues you, then you have just found heaven! Highly recommended... ~ R.I.P.W.O.W. ~
Movie Review: The benchmark for women in prison films. Summary: 5 Stars
As a serious women in prison film collector, I can state that no other film than 'reform school girls' better epitomizes what the genre is about more completely. It has all the humorous elements one would expect in a such a film; the wicked wardeness, the bad butch girls, the helpless girl, the kitten stomp, shower scenes, fights, brandings, DDT delousing and did I mention shower scenes? Where do girls in a juvenile facility get all that fancy langerie anyway? Wendy O'Willimas puts in a convincing and moving performance as a wicked correctional official and seems to delight in her evil role. Sybil Danning makes an extended cameo that was mandatory for a film of this type in the 1980's. Although it lacks the gladitorial competitions of 'Lust for Freedom' or the exploitative child birth scene of 'Bad Girls Dormitory', it is cheerful and builds up gradually to a frenzy of revolutionary fervor. This film will definitely not disappoint. This is also a good film for those new to the genre and those who enjoy the excesses of the 80's.
Movie Review: great update from a classic prison flick Summary: 5 Stars
This film, was actually a remake of the film "Caged" starring Eleanor Parker and Agnes Moorehead, made in the 50's. This film was remade with a 80's rock and roll feel. The "lets play the name game" scene is an exact duplicate of "c'mon you tramps line up for count" where the girls get off their bunk beds, stand in line and recite their name. The women in the 50's version wore drab prison garb, the new version the women are wearing sexy undergarments! When you compare the two matrons of each movie, they could pass for sisters!!! Both films have a prison riot because of a cat that was smuggled into the prison. Wendy O. Williams was great, understand she was tragically killed in a bike accident just about 6 months after this film was made. Sybil Danning who played the warden, who is a several prison made movie woman herself, playing in great films like Caged Heat. This is a good DVD and a camp remake of a classic prison film.
Movie Review: KEEP YOUR HANDS ABOVE THE SHEETS LADIES!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I had seen this film years ago when my older sister and her friend had hired it.
I hadn't seen this for years and only remembered a few scenes from the film, so I decided to buy it to see again.
I love it!
If you understand that it's a spoof of women in Prison movies and not to be taken too seriously, then I think you'll enjoy the film better. It's fun and funny in many places.
Lead Linda Carol is impressive. I like her alot, and really enjoyed her as the lead. Where is she today?
I wish she was working more. I miss her!
Wendy O' Williams is awesome in this film. She's tough and will take no crap from nobody.
This film has it's own special place in my heart.
If you enjoy Women in prison movies then you should definitely check this out.
