Movie Review: The Red Violin DVD
Summary: 5 Stars
This is a fabulous movie, it is a love story, a mystery and history all in one. Although it is fictional, there are allusions to moments in time that are real. It is so beautiful that I felt I was sitting and watching a series of gorgeous paintings (except for the bleak moments which gave the movie its contrasts), accompanied by the exquisite musical score with Joshua Bell on the violin. I actually purchased this as a gift, but I have seen it myself at least 3 times.Movie Review: LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!

This film is absolutely beautiful from start to finish, it's riveting! My favorite aspect of it is the fact that the main character is not a person, it's a violin! I love how the audience can follow it through various periods in history and see how music is interpreted in different times as well as different parts of the world. I have been a fan of this movie for years, since I rented it at the video store. This tells the story of a violin that takes on the fates of its makers wife through hundreds of years. I don't want to divulge why this happens, but buy the movie and it is not as far-fetched as you may think. It imparts small history lessons through the plot of the movie. The RED VIOLIN is a beautiful film, witty and powerful. It traces the story of a violin as it is passed across many cultures and into the hands of many interesting characters.
The heart of this film is the score which, as a film of this title implies, features some incredible violin solos. Great musical performances by Joshua Bell and others giving this violin the majesty necessary to command its central role.

i love this movie. like i say, if you can't get into foreign films or the subtitles trip you up, try this one. it's half english, half other languages, and it is perfect at introducing you to other non-american themes and more sexuality than you will be used to, but it is provocative enough to make you want to continue watching. nothing too racy, but beautiful and told in an interesting and hauntingly beautiful fashion.
