Movie Reviews of Red Rock West

Movie Review: Nicholas and the terrible horrible no good very bad day
Summary: 4 Stars

Red Rock West is intended as a "Hitchcockesque" psycho-drama but really ends up being more of a "Black Comedy" of errors. Nicholas Cage, plays the same character he often does ( the down on his luck man with principles) and does it pretty well, this time his character's luck starts out bad then things go downhill sharply from there. Dennis Hopper plays the same character we often see him as (the cartoonish, mentally unbalanced man capable of anything) and again, does it well.

So here's the deal...
This film is a pretty good pop-corn movie and not a bad way to spend an hour and a half or so. If this was a book I'd be upset that I wasted my time, but as a movie it works pretty well.

Movie Review: Don't miss this one too.....
Summary: 4 Stars

I hadn't heard much about this film, nothing in fact, when I stumbled across it in the video store. I was pleased to discover a taut little noir picture about a down-and-out ex-marine (Nicolas Cage) looking for employment in the wrong town. What ensues is a winding story involving murder for hire and a femme fatale. Cage and Boyle put in solid performances and Hopper is vaguely creepy as usual. I liked the pacing of this movie; it kept up the tension without overdoing it. With crazy twists and some laughs it kept me interested the whole time despite being occasionally formulaic. Too bad this movie was overlooked by the public, I advise you not to make the same mistake.

Movie Review: Red Rock West Is A Good Film
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a very good film with very sparse haunting music. The story has many twists and turns and keeps you guessing. I would recommend this film. The only problem with a film like this is that once you know the twists and turns, it kind of takes the bang out of it for you as a viewer.
The film is good and I don't see how anyone would not like this film. Rent it....buy it....and see it at least once. Good Film Noir. Very much worth seeing...even only to see Dennis Hopper who is supurb as the ex-marine/buddy of Cage/ then enemy and killer. Good Review: Decent neo-noir
Summary: 4 Stars The Bottom Line:

The supporting characters steal the show a bit from flat leads Nicholas Cage and Lara Flynn Boyle, but Red Rock West is still an enjoyable neo-noir from John Dahl (Kill Me Again, The Last Seduction) which doesn't throw in arbitrary twists to cheat the audience and is consistently interesting; all things considered, this is an entertaining piece of filmmaking.

Movie Review: What a pleasant surprise
Summary: 4 Stars

A real 'Saturday Evening Surprise' film - the sort you you've never heard of but start to watch as you think 'there's nothing on and this is probably the best of a bad bunch' and it turns out to be excellent.

Has there ever been a better grasping gold digger than Barbara Flynn Boyle in this?

The suspense keeps up for the whole film and the leads are truly professional.
