Movie Reviews of Red RiverMovie Review: Red River Summary: 5 Stars
Director Howard Hawks gave western icon John Wayne another indelible, ruggedly stubborn character to play in his masterful "Red River," a high point of their many collaborations. Populated by colorful supporting characters, including the salty Walter Brennan as camp cook Groot Nadine, "River" combines psychological drama, action, and suspense in a stirring, expansive western landscape. The final settling of scores between Wayne and Clift is unforgettable.
Movie Review: Hawks, Wayne, Clift, Brennan, et al. Summary: 5 Stars
One of the greatest Westerns ever, but unfortunately, Hollywood intrudes at the ending: the last two minutes are as silly as the first two hours are unforgettable. Not surprisingly, the writer of the source material objected to the ending of the movie. In the original story, Dunson is killed by Valance and he's buried by Matt at the Red River--truly a tragic ending worthy of this epic story, but I'm afraid you can't kill off John Wayne.
Movie Review: John Wayne Classic Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this as a gift for my nephew as he is an avid John Wayne fan. This, along with "The High and the Mighty" and "The Quiet Man" are classics!
We have watched this movie five or six times --- it is always entertaining.
Reading your customertags I have to say that whoever tagged this with "gay subtext" is so far off base it is hysterical. Probably same mentality as people who saw gay subtexts in "Happy Feet"
Movie Review: Terrific but Letterbox Please Summary: 5 Stars
There's not much to add about this movie beyond what has been written already, other than it's too bad they didn't produce it in letterbox. The four page extra, which is really two, is pretty minimal on information. Perhaps a trip to imdb.com will help. I suspect younger viewers might be a put off by what might seem a little too much attention to the cattle, but the story builds steadily to the climactic scenes.
Movie Review: A great western Summary: 5 Stars
I love Red River. It is another classic John Wayne western, with excellent acting, wonderful story, and great scenery. Montgomery Clift was superb, as well as John Wayne, Joanne Dru, and Walter Brennan. An excellent western.
