Movie Reviews of Reba - Season 1

Movie Review: Shockingly Funny Sit Com
Summary: 5 Stars

Reba Hart's (Reba McEntire) life is not turning out the way she had planned. Instead of the trial separation from her dentist husband Brock (Christopher Rich) ending in him moving back home, she learns that he has impregnated his dental hygienist Barbra Jean (Melissa Peterman). As if that weren't bad enough, she also learns that her 17-year-old drill team captain daughter Cheyenne (Joanna Garcia) is also pregnant, courtesy of her boyfriend and the captain of the football team, Van Montgomery (Steve Howey).

Naturally, this leads to lots of upheaval. While Brock and Reba divorce so Brock can marry Barbra Jean, Cheyenne and Van get married and move in with Reba to finish their senior year of high school. And Reba needs to keep it together for her two younger kids, smart and sarcastic Kyra (Scarlett Pomers), and six-year-old Jake (Mitch Holleman).

Adultery, divorce, and teen pregnancy. Have I mentioned yet that this is a comedy?

As unlikely as it seems, it is. And it really is very funny. I started out not watching this show because I figured a show starring Reba couldn't be that good. But I caught one late in the first season and fell in love. Reba brings a warmth and humor to the part. And I laugh my way through every one of the 22 episodes in this season.

Being a sit com, some of the serious subjects dealt with come across a little too softly. Consequences that might occur in real life are brought up, but all problems are solved in 22 minutes with laughs, jokes, and a hug or two. I will admit at times that does bug me. But it is the nature of the format.

While the show calls itself a family sit com, this isn't a show I would let my kids watch by themselves. There are occasional off color jokes. Plus, the subject matter is very mature. This is something I'd watch with older kids and use as a tool to open discussion of various issues brought up on the show.

My other complaint about the season is Barbra Jean. Here, they really play up her church attendance and Christianity. And yet she doesn't seem to get the fact that she's an adulterer. Fortunately, that is played down in later seasons.

If you let this sit com go without watching, give it a chance. You'll find great characters and funny situations that will have you laughing before you know what hit you.

Movie Review: Hilarious sitcom about an unlikely family...
Summary: 5 Stars

Reba McEntire stars as Reba Hart, a mother of three whose husband Brock (Christopher Rich) has recently left her for his dental assistant -- who is pregnant. To complicate matters, Reba's just discovered her 17-year-old daughter Cheyanne is also expecting.

Before she knows it, Reba's got a new son-in-law, Van (Steve Howey), who she's helping support while he and Cheyanne (Joanna Garcia) struggle to finish high school before the birth of their child. Meanwhile, Reba's youngest, Jake, is only seven; and smart, sarcastic middle child Kyra (Scarlett Pomers) acts out from the pressures of being the only sane person around.

As if things weren't complicated enough, Reba is forced to deal with Brock's new wife, Barbra Jean (Melissa Peterman), a ditzy blonde who idolizes Reba and just doesn't seem to understand why they can't be best friends.

What's a woman to do? Most in Reba's situation would fall apart, but not her. Even when things are at their darkest, Reba's wit allows her to laugh and see the good -- though in no way is her character, or the show, sappy or sentimental. Rather, the imperfect Hart family strives to live each day to the fullest, making the best of each day however they can.

Give this show a try -- I guarantee you'll be hooked instantly!

Movie Review: Zany comedy
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an amazing show. My husband and I watched the last episode of the DVD tonight (# 22) and once again he characterized it as hysterical.

This show is a real WWJD story. Given much family dysfunction and "sin" how do you make it right? Love thy neighbor, forgive the sins of those around you, and keep on keeping on by putting love and family first is the real message of Reba which makes us feel good after we have watched each episode.

There are absolute slap sitck moments as well as incredibly realistic and tender moments that make watching the Reba shows rewarding. If you want wholesome entertainment in this world of grim destruction this is a nice show to watch.

I bought the Season One DVD after watching several seasons of the show on TV. The DVD is a commercial-free bargain for laughter therapy, relaxation, and an alternative to most regular TV which I find incredibly shallow, violent, and heavy on shock, awe, and titilation with no substance what-so-ever.

As soon as we finished watching our last episode tonight, my husband asked me to get online right away to see if Season 2 was available yet on DVD, hence my review. I hope it's coming soon!

Movie Review: To Those Who Left Bad Reviews of REBA
Summary: 5 Stars

To those of you who think your teens aren't having sex... well.. then you are living in sitcom fantasy land. To those of you who kick your kids out when they come to you pregnant, then you don't know about life's mistakes and tolerance.
Its hard being a teenager now a days.. Its harder being a single mom trying to make the best of things. This show is about a mother who does both and teaches about God's tolerance too.
There are divorces, there are teen pregnancies.. and yes.. they do mention adoption by the way. :p I have seen things like this in real life and often it all works out if parents support their children the way Reba does in this show. PLEASE watch the whole show before you judge the writers, the producers and the actors. Because... you will learn that this show is wonderful and is more of a REALITY show than most REALITY shows out there.
ALSO just for those of you.. I don't condone teen sex.. but.. I will support my child the same way in that position.. Notice that the teen parents work.. and go to school. They pitch in and help out whenever they can. Its a solid household.

If only real life could copy that.. OH wait.. it does...

Movie Review: Reba In An Amazing New Light!
Summary: 5 Stars

Reba McEntire never ceases to amaze me.

I am proud to say that I am a new fan. I listened to my first Reba CD over the summer (Room to Breathe) in response to how much I loved watching this show on the WB (at that time, season 3.) So, I missed the first and second seasons, so was obviously thrilled when this came out.

I'm not going to waste your time by rehashing the concept of this show, because the editor's comments and other reviews will tell you that. But just trust me when I tell you that this show is full of humor and heart. You will fall in love with all of the main characters, not just Reba.

Each character is unique and adds something special to the mix. They have such chemistry with each other, and make watching this show a truly enjoyable experience.

I truly enjoyed season 1 of REBA....so what if you aren't a regular fan of the show now? This is an incredible way to start! I can't think of a single bad thing to say about this. Now, go out and buy this DVD and find out for yourself. I give you my personal guarantee that you will not be disappointed.

I am eagerly awaiting season 2! Well done!!!!!
