Movie Review: More features and Widescreen please. Summary: 4 Stars
Most folks missed this strange little comedy back in the 80's and it's distribution was scarce at best. After viewing it with college buddies back in the 90's I had to buy my copy at a used video store...for a buck. Ritter and Belushi are great together. Slapstick humor mixed with plain old off the wall comedic story telling makes this one of my favorite 'left of center' comedies. Neighborhood bullies, Russian spies, clown agents, pens from outer space, transexual family members, S&M mistresses, and a glass of water...add it up and you get 'Real Men'. The DVD looks weak though. No widescreen? Just the trailer? Ok granted, a making of documentary might not be needed for this one, but at least give us a double layer disc so we can choose wide or full. I doubt there will be a special edition of this coming from MGM anytime soon, but It would be nice. I guess I should thank them for putting it out at all. However considering the cult following of this movie and our feelings on the matter, MGM should "try to be more sensative".
Movie Review: I hate full screen. I love this movie! Summary: 4 Stars
This is one of the best comedies of the 1980s. It's so weird. I show it to all of my friends and they just shake their heads. My fiance' watched it and said, "Why was John Ritter fighting clowns?". Hilarious. Jim Belushi is a secret agent who needs to train John Ritter to deliver a special glass of water to some aliens or else the world is going to end. Sound fun? It is. There are some classic lines in this movie, "I used to have a pretty good pen Bob." Watch it if you like these kinds of comedies. You even get a cameo from a young James Le Gross. What more could you ask for!
Movie Review: Spoofing the action hero movies Summary: 4 Stars
Real Men is a delightful spoof of the action hero type movie.
A light hearted three way cross between James Bond, Get Smart, and The X-Files.
This movie has some really off the wall gags in it. Sometimes it`s a fine line between comedy and a film coming off as just being
stupid. But this one finds the right balance. Pitching up even the most cornball gags and still getting a good laugh out of them.
Movie Review: Real Men Summary: 4 Stars
A thin but well paced story with numerous sight gags and good one liners. I would not recommend the film for younger viewers because of the sexual implications of some scenes. An amusing comedy with two of the best.
