*****
Summary of Film:

Employing archival material, the Rape of Nanking begins with a historical overview of ancient China and Nanking, including rare film-footage of Nanking and its citizens before the attack. The Rape of Nanking next explains the mind-set of Japan, Bushido (the Way of the Warrior), and the belief in an Emperor-god who was destined to rule the world. This documentary proceeds to the attack on Shanghai, followed by the raping, plundering, and murders committed on the road to Nanking. Also explored, how intrigues and betrayals within China's Nationalist government contributed to the massacre. There follows the massacre with lengthy sequences devoted to the raping, torture, beheadings, bayonnetting, burning, and killing of nearly 280,000 Chinese men, women, children, and babies. This is not for the faint hearted. Also covered are events within the safety zone featuring photos and quotes of John Rabe and other committee members. Statements of rape victims, witnesses to the tragedy, and the recollections of Japanese soldiers and journalists who participated or witnessed these crimes are presented onscreen in association with pictures of these crimes. The Rape of Nanking explains how Japan's military used Nanking for killing practice, and how these same horrific crimes were committed throughout China and Asia. The film concludes with an overview of Unit 731 and American interests in covering up these crimes.

The Rape of Nanking is by far the most popular, most talked about, and most recommended film ever made on this tragedy, with an estimated viewership of over 16 million, over 30,000 comments posted online in America, ranked in the Top 10 Most Discussed Films of All Time (2007), and praised by China Central TV, the People's Daily, World Journal, Beijing Youth Daily, Global Times, China Youth Daily, Xinhau (China News Agency), and numerous other media outlets in China. "The whole world should see this movie" (Sing Tao).

Summary of The Rape of Nanking (Disc 1 Side A). Unit 731, Sex Slaves & Comfort Women, Japanese War Time Atrocities, Hiroshima, and more (Disc 1, Side B).

The best... most influential movie ever made on this tragedy--China Central TV. Top 10 Most Discussed Films of All Time, 2007. The whole world should see this movie--Sina.com. Thoughtful.... Profound.... Shocking... ----People's Daily --Beijing Youth Daily --China Youth Daily. Viewed by 16 million people world wide. Over 30,000 Individual comments have been posted online about this film in the US alone. The new edition contains 2 (two-sided) DVDs, featuring the best film ever made on this tragedy; The Rape of Nanking, and 6 featurettes: Unit 731, Sex Slaves & Comfort Women, Hiroshima (and more). This film, The Rape of Nanking begins with a historical overview of ancient China and the sun-cult of Shinto, Bushido, and Japanese Emporer Hirohito's dream to rule the world. There follows the Japanese invasion of Shanghai, the Rape of Nanking, inside the Safety Zone (featuring the observations of John Rabe and others) and finally, the rape of Manilla, Unit 731 and the Baatan Death March. Japanese soldiers tear out the eyes of children, gang-rape women then set them on fire, bury people alive or use them for bayonet practice...beheading women, children, old men....and torturing people for fun...and then laughing hysterically as victims, who have been set on fire, run screaming through the night... We had fun killing Chinese. We caught some innocent Chinese and either buried them alive, or pushed them into a fire, or beat them to death with clubs. When they were half dead we pushed them into ditches and burned them, torturing them to death. Everyone gets his entertainment this way. Its like killing dogs and cats. --Asahi Shimbun, Japanese soldier, describing Japanese atrocities during the Rape of Nanking. We took turns raping them. We always stabbed and killed them. When we were raping her, we looked at her as a woman. But when we killed her, we just thought of her as something like a pig. --Azuma Shiro, Japanese soldier. This film received rave reviews in all the Chinese press, and filled theaters in Nanking, Wuhan, and elsewhere. And not just the Chinese press, but even people working for our competitors agree, The Rape of Nanking is the best documentary ever made on this tragedy. In fact, our competitors decided to make their film, only after watching ours and learning of its great success. Viewers should be warned, The Rape of Nanking contains footage which will shock and horrify. However, some of the material on Disc 2, is so frightening and horrifying some viewers can't sleep at night. Unit 731, for example, details Japanese medical experiments performed on live prisoners. Hiroshima shows, in horrifying details, the punishment received by the Japanese people for the crimes committed by their leaders. The choice is clear: This film, The Rape of Nanking, is the best, most discussed, and most influential movie ever made on this tragedy.
