Movie Reviews of Rammstein - Lichtspielhaus

Movie Review: Best. DVD. Ever.
Summary: 5 Stars

First it was October. Then December. Now it's finally January and I actually have Lichtspielhaus in my hands. Oh sweet lord. Any Rammstein fan needs this. And even if you don't like Rammstein, buy it anyway. I've been a fan for years now and I cannot see any true fan without this DVD.

The DVD itself is packed full of eye candy to keep you entertained. The entire interface is 3D, which gives it a very high-quality that is hard to come by when you get a DVD based on a band. Overall, the DVD is 3 1/2 hours long. Amazing. There's the videos (which are works of art), live videos, making of the videos, and a few other things stuffed in. Thus begins my review:

THE VIDEOS:
If this DVD has only the music videos and nothing else, it'd still be worth every penny. This isn't some "lets sing along" style video, its a performance. A 5 minute movie if you will. No other band has been able to incorporate their music into their videos with such passion. Whether it's Ich Will or Du Riechst so Gut, you'll be amazing the whole way through.

LIVE FOOTAGE:
Without seeing Rammstein live, you're missing half of the Rammstein experience. Their show is like no other, with enough fire and pyrotechnics to set a large city ablaze. Lichtspielhaus has videos from 1996 to 2001 as well as MTV Performances. The earlier shows are interesting because it shows how they really started and what their earlier visuals were. In my own opinion, the Mutter tour was better. The songs had more feeling, the crowd more into it, and the whole "technological" feeling to it was amazing. For people like me, they have "Links 2-3-4" and "Ich Will" live from the Velredome. Amazing.

MAKING OF:
When you think of Rammstein, you may think they're angry all the time (maybe like Till). It's these making of videos that show who Rammstein really is and how they act outside of the tours and music. The "Making of Ich Will" was easily the best video there is because it tackles many of the problems the public has given them. There's also "Sonne" and "Links 2-3-4" as well as other ones like "Du Hast". Very nice.

MISCELLANEOUS:
There are also a few commercials put into the mix. The best is, of course, "Achtung! Wir Kommen". In this video, it shows how Rammstein has spread all over Europe. The other videos are very short and are just short clips promoting their albums.

Overall, the best DVD I own. If you like Rammstein, you need this.

Movie Review: Rammstein mein fuehrer
Summary: 5 Stars

Rammstein's blend of pounding industrial music and horror theatrics is on full display in this, the second DVD the band has put out. The first, "Live Aus Berlin" detailed an amazing live show in Berlin. "Lichtspielhaus" is more a compilation of selected shows and videos that serves as the perfect introduction to people wanting to get into Rammstein's music.

VIDEOS: All 12 of Rammstein's videos are included in all their stunning imagery. Rammstein's doom and gloom music has always been best suited for the visual and these videos are all amazing. The highlight of the bunch has to be the gothic-tinged 1998 version of "Du Riechst So Gut", one of the best horror-themed music videos ever.

MAKING OF: A section detailing the making of 5 selected music videos. Details the production efforts of those involved in the making of the videos. Throughout, many commentaries are included and we get to learn lots about the band, its history, the philosophies behind their music. The most educational of the sections.

LIVE: Live footage selected from 6 of their concerts throughout Germany and Australia. All 6 concerts cover 2 songs a piece. This is probably the best way to witness Rammstein's evolution; the first concert in 1996 has rather humble stage histrionics. By the time the 4th concert rolls around, Rammstein's high-tech gadgets are on full display, such as the singer's lazer eye, fire boots and enough explosions and fire to alert the national guard. The adoration that the german crowd (who are incredibly diverse in age) have for their national heroes is remarkable, they all seem to know the lyrics for every song, most evident when they sing along to the haunting "Seamann".

The videos and Making of sections are great but it's the live footage that sent me into a couch-jumping, pillow-throwing frenzy. Rammstein are simply put the most amazing live band in existence at the current time. Apparently, almost everyone in Germany listens to them, people of all different ages and interests. It's a pretty cool band to have as a nation's musical pride, especially considering I live in a country where the national pride is Céline Dion. This is an incredible package for fans of the band, delivering all the goodies in a massive 210 minute filler-free DVD. I'd never come across such a quality DVD at this type of bargain bin price before.

Movie Review: Rammstein Video Collection A Smorgasbord...
Summary: 5 Stars

Rammstein's videos are just as bizarre and wonderful as their live shows, and LICHTSPIELHAUS is the perfect DVD for any Rammstein fan. Encapsulating most of their videos (minus the ones from REISE, REISE and ROSENROT), this is a stellar collection. Here's a breakdown of the DVD itself:

MENU: My god, the technology they have come up with is absolutely amazing on the menus. It's sort of like a 3-D environment with a odd and strange structure housing the features you can choose from. Whether you want to view the music videos or the live footage, you can't go wrong with the way they set up this menu. Definitely hands down one of the best I've ever seen.

THE MUSIC VIDEOS: Now this is really the meat of the DVD. You get all the videos from HERZELEID, SEHNSUCHT, and MUTTER. You will surely find so much to enjoy here, and whether you want to view the videos of "Seamann", "Rammstein", or even "Du Hast", you're going to be impressed. When it comes down to it, the music videos will grab you by the shirt collar and never let you go. The video for "Du Reichst So Gut" is both strange and funny. Definitely the best part of the DVD.

THE LIVE FOOTAGE: Ah, now we all know how much of a show these guys can put on. From Till setting himself on fire to the crowd chanting "Rammstein! RAMMSTEIN!", you'll find plenty to enjoy. Even though it isn't as much as you'll find on the stellar LIVE AUS BERLIN DVD, you're going to really enjoy the footage, and the band's performance is by far one of the best on the stage.

OVERALL IMPRESSION: LICHTSPIELHAUS is a terrific DVD for the Rammstein fan. While I eagerly await the second volume of music videos and live footage to be released hopefully next year, you'll find so much to enjoy on this collection. If I could give this two thumbs up, I'd definitely do it. But for now, a five star rating is the closest justice I can give this phenomenal DVD set. Rammstein fans, eat up and enjoy!

Movie Review: A must-have for RAMMS+EIN fans.
Summary: 5 Stars

Like the title says, if you are a fan of RAMMS+EIN, small or big fan, this is a definite must-have in your collection. The only music video i saw from them was Du hast back in '98. Back in 2003, I became a big RAMMS+EIN fan. I had all of the cds they have in stores here. Then a friend let me borrow the Family Values Tour '98 tape. She had told me RAMMS+EIN was on it. I had never seen them perform, so I borrowed it. It is also a must have. It was a good beginning look for RAMMS+EIN since I had never seen them perform live. After watching that, I searched online and found Live aus Berlin. I had the cd, (it was the first RAMMS+EIN cd I bought, a good beginning cd for new listeners). I always wondered what kind of performance they did based on the cd. I knew immediately I had to get it. The first day, it blew my mind away. I still believe today it is the best concert DVD I have and will ever see. When I saw the music videos they had shown on the Live aus Berlin DVD interview, I definitely wanted to see all of their videos. Finally this year, they have released a DVD with not just ALL of their music videos, but even more good concert footage including songs performed from Mutter. I really enjoy watching how the made a few of the videos on the DVD. The DVD menus are definitely awesome. Trust me, if you even think RAMMS+EIN's music is ok, and if you don't have a friend who has this DVD, go out and buy it. It is suprisingly very cheap for its importance. Ever since I have bought it, I have watched it about everyday since. Like I said, it is a must-have. Here is a listing of RAMMS+EIN cd's and DVD's I have gotten in order, (which is a good way to enjoy their music if you haven't yet). Live aus Berlin-cd, Mutter-cd, Sehnsucht-cd, Herzeleid-cd, Family Values Tour '98-DVD or VHS, Live aus Berlin-DVD or VHS, Lichtspielhaus-DVD- a good topper to the collection. ENJOY!

Movie Review: Quick, look behind you!
Summary: 5 Stars

This dvd is amazing just simply amazing. In fact I can't even describe it to you but I will try.

Let's start things off with the videos. The first couple of videos are pretty lame but that's to be expected. The videos start to get good with Engel and they just keep on getting better until their last video Feuer Frei. Most of the videos all have a plot like a little movie which I enjoyed because you don't see many videos like that in America. The videos also had some funny moments in them like in Sonne and ich will. The video Mutter didn't make sense at all but it's unintentionally funny.

The concert footage was also very good. It starts off by showing Rammstein performing on a small stage in 1996 all the way to them performing in arenas in 2002. It's a nice way to see how they've evolved from their beggining to the present. There is footage from 6 different concerts. In 4 of them they play 2 songs and on 2 of them they play one song. The footage with sehnsucht on it is taken from the dvd Live aus Berlin and the studio version is heard. You also don't get to see that much pyrotechnics but there is some, not that they really need it to throw a good show.

The extras include interviews with subtitles which are okay to watch every now and then. They also include footage of Rammstein appearing on all of the MTV's from America to Germany spanning their career, which I like to watch a lot more than the interviews.

This is a great dvd at a very cheap price and I would recommend that you buy now if you're a Rammstein fan.
