Movie Reviews of Rambo [Blu-ray]

Movie Review: A Triumphant Return
Summary: 5 Stars

The name Rambo is synonymous with violence, so with Rambo 4, John Rambo or whatever you want to call it, they were determined to make this the most violent Rambo to date. Taking the setting to Burma to give the mainstream audience a view on how violent parts of Burma are, Rambo is revived in a triumphant massacre. This time, he's not alone.

After being approached by a group of Christian Aid Workers, Rambo takes them up the river and into Burma. He starts to fall for one of the aid workers by the name of Sarah (Julie Benz) but they are both two very different people. Whilst on their aid trip in a small village, the village is attacked by the armed militia and the aid workers are kidnapped along with Sarah. Rambo, having left the workers behind, is approached 10 days later to help track down the workers. This time he has help from a group of mercenaries which will help him save Sarah, and take down the evil regime.

This is a really good movie that, when involving the violence is no holds barred graphic wise. I can't help but think we've been lied to somehow as Sly has said in numerous interviews that he didn't use any CGI for this movie. This appears to be untrue as there's one part of the movie that we see a considerably large explosion that seems very much computer generated. Sly seems to be wanting to bring back the old glory days of the first rocky movies and the first Rambo's. With the success of Rocky Balboa and now with the success of Rambo 4, it's clear that Sly still has what it takes to give us a really good film. The only really bad point is the length at just over an hour and 10 minutes. Buy it, you wont be disappointed.

Summary: 5 Stars Heed my warnings... you know all the "gruesome" scenes in other movies where the camera pans off-screen just before the most violent act is carried out? Well, Rambo doesn't pan off screen.. you get to see those with a fury like no other film ever produced.. and these aren't cheesy haunted house effects...the events depicted are almost surreal. Take out all of the violence and you're left with about 15-20 minutes of peace.

Technically:
- Editing is excellent.
- Transfer on blu-ray 'pops.' Colors seems a tad bit over-saturated, but contrasts and blacks are spot-on.
- 7.1 DTS-MA (a rarity) makes the action all the more life-like. Since there's not a lot of dialogue in this film, your center channel won't receive the workout of the other channels, however, this is an immersive experience.

There is barely any story here... hardly any dialogue...This latest Rambo 'film' can can barely be classified as such. However, what is here is 5-stars of vomit inducing guilty pleasure. What else can I say... For what it is, I loved this movie! 5-stars.

Foot-note:
The latest Rambo outing is (loosely?) based on events happening in the country of Myanmar (formly known as Burma). If what's depicted in this movie is even 1/8 of what's going on there... the citizens of that country need help and they need it now!

Movie Review: Don't ever judge a book by its cover
Summary: 5 Stars

When I found out that `Rambo' was coming out I was skeptical just like everyone else. Stallone was not `on fire' when it came to movies. His last Rocky film didn't get the credits Stallone himself probably wanted and before that his movies were rated below average (Truth hurts Sylvester I know).

I got to watch `Rambo' on blue-ray the second day it was released, and just as I can imagine many people who did not believe in this film, I was also stunned and amazed. It is actually a great movie! No boring dialogue and the plot is interesting and intense. What you'll see in this film is what actually happens across our planet by these sadistic radical fanatics war groups and how their killing spree goes on. Yes, the movie is gory, in fact one can say it's too gory, and also explicit; but in the end it is reality and sometimes we must be expose to it to understand what is going on in foreign countries.

Rambo is a bad ass, no doubt about that. A very serious man and when it comes to business he will tear anyone apart (literally!). If you're an action movie lover do not miss on this work of art. It is not cheesy in any way and the killing scenes are pretty graphic. If you get weak stomached by blood baths and flesh gashing than I would try to avoid this; but I warn you, you may miss out what is either way a good flick.

Movie Review: awesome
Summary: 5 Stars

Cringed when forced to watch the other Rambo movies. I was infact tramatized by them at a young age. They were my brother's favorite movies from ages 13 and up...I had been forced to watch them (only 1 TV in house back them) during holidays, school breaks and summer vacation when they were on one of the few stations that came in on our TV (before satilite dishes and cable did not come out to out house). Now fast forward to present day, I am bored and on a friends recommendation decide to watch this....WOW. What a fantastic movie. This actually had a great story line, a unfortunatly believaable storyline and was very well executed. I won't bother to give a synopsis, there are numberous reviews which do this. All I can say is this movie is so good, I even recommended it to my mother, who was also tramatized by the number of times by brothers wanted to watch the other 3. She was at first resistent but as my dad wanted to see it (apples don't fall far from the tree)she relented. Although IT IS violent, she was also suprised what a good movie it was. The extra material is also really great and very informative. If you can stomach modern war and seeing the inhumane things humanity does and enjoy a good action flick, this could be a movie you would enjoy.
