Movie Review: A match made in heaven

In my spare time the past few years I amuse myself with a little site called Steve's Deserted Island Music. Of the ten artists I'd want to take with me to that island, two are here together on this DVD, Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris.
With such high expectations, I dreaded a letdown in actually watching the recorded show. Needn't have worried. Not only are these two artists giving their best (and it's so good to be able to use that word legitimately, as artists they are), but they're backed by a band second to none.
Icing on the cake is that the songs aren't all from the album "All the Roadrunning." Also included are gems from past albums by both Emmylou and Mark. Some songs don't work for me as well as the originals -- especially the classic "Boulder to Birmingham" -- but I'm just picking nits.
I do wish Knopfler had extended himself more on guitar, as he did in the Soundstage version of these concerts. (In some ways the better concert, I say, but not sold by PBS last I checked.) He's too much a gentleman, I guess, to hog the show. When he does take the lead, though, the excitement audibly goes up, and when he's done you're certain he stopped too soon.
This is a marvelous concert, better than any I can remember. Be sure to play it through your stereo, not just from the TV and, as my dear wife says when I ask if I can crank up the volume, "Shake the walls!"
