Movie Reviews of Queer as Folk - The Complete Series

Movie Review: Iconic Folk
Summary: 5 Stars

I feel the title says it all the show is an Icon for our community in entertainment. It's a one of a kind series that will never be topped. I can remember making sure we were home inorder to watch each episode not only my partner and I doing this but everyone we knew. No matter how you feel about this show I know from my own experience I have known people in my own life that mirror every single character on the show. Well worth buying!

Movie Review: Good series - bad case design.
Summary: 3 Stars

This comment is for the box set. The series is great but the case design is crappy. All the dvd's are lose in the set. Every time you open a season the dvd's fall out. Mine wasn't scratched but I can see how that can happen.

Movie Review: Vivid portrayal of Gay Lifestyle
Summary: 5 Stars

Even tho I am Gay and against drug use, it is a fact of life. The use in this video is a realist view of gay life. The developement of Brian Kinney's personality, and that of all of the characters is an eyeopener to all. Sex, drugs, and booze!! the three "musts" of gay life, as perceived by outsiders. The reality of it is: we are no different than our straight counterparts. Some of us (straight and gay) use drugs, sex, and booze as a means to finding a better life. QUEER AS FOLKS follows both guys, and the gals in their quest for love, and happiness. It was a laugh, and a cry, to watch the 7 main characters as they went thru life.
I reconmmend this as a "Must View" for all gay, and straight, people.

Movie Review: Gay or Straight
Summary: 5 Stars

If you've never watched it, you should. If you've watched it before, you should watch it again. This is Showtime's greatest series by far- the edgy, gay Sex in the City.

Movie Review: We Don't Have to Miss Liberty Avenue

"Queer as Folk": The Complete Series

We Don't Have to Miss Liberty Avenue

Amos Lassen

"Queer as Folk" did a great deal for the GLBT community in that is was the first television series to look at the gay lifestyle in depth and it did so in a way that both entertained us and engrossed us. Looking back at the series, I see that it depicted what it was like to be gay as we approached the new millennium. Now you can have the entire series--all 78 episodes with all the extras--on 28 discs. There is also a bonus disc that reunites the cast for the first time and it is amazing.
I love the series and I never get bored watching it and I also realize how much I miss it. The characters became my friends and their adventures are so real that it is easy to relate to them. Here is a show that deserves a special place in the annals of the GLBT experience in America. It is a rich account of gay life as it existed just a few years ago and much of it is still relevant to today. Sure some of the series is exaggerated and perhaps hard to watch because of the situations that may not apply to everyone but it does warm the heart on one hand and titillates on the other.
A word about the reunion--it was a bit difficult to see some of the insecurities of some of the actors but when remembering how terrific they are in the series, it allows you to overlook that detail.
