Movie Reviews of Queen - We Will Rock You

Movie Review: Simply awesome
Summary: 5 Stars

Ok first things first - don't believe everything you read in other reviews about this new version of the We Will Rock You DVD. The audio and video quality is awesome, and while the concert isn't classic Queen, it is the only DVD available so far of a live performance by a great band.

There are no sync problems between the audio and video, and the reason why the band doesn't perform the middle section of Bohemian Rhapsody live is very simple - Queen never performed that part on stage. It was so complex that they always played a tape recording of it while they went offstage to change costumes and freshen up.

If you don't own a full-blown home theatre set-up, don't despair. This DVD has a killer stereo track that rocks.

As for the songs, they are all drawn from the older albums. The concert features such strong tracks as Save Me, Play The Game, I'm in Love With My Car, Under Pressure and Somebody To Love.

The biggest drawback with this concert seems to be the audience, they don't seem to be familiar with the music of Queen, and one of the highpoints of a Queen concert was Freddie's interaction with the fans. For that, I guess we will have to wait for the release on DVD of classic concerts like Live in Rio and Live in Budapest.

If you like Queen and their music, just go do yourself a favour - get this DVD, put it into the player, turn up the volume and enjoy!!

P.S.: Ignore Phill Fionda's review. He is obviously talking about the original version of the "We Will Rock You" DVD which is truly abysmal, by all accounts.

Movie Review: An awesome Queen show!!
Summary: 5 Stars

We Will Rock You is second only to Wembley as far as Queen DVDs go. The energy and great sound of the first two songs-"WWRY" fast and "Let me Entertain You"- truly set the stage. Freddie is at his best here, I think, but Roger has his moments ("I'm In Love with My Car") and Brian's really rockin' on the heavier songs!! (What about John? Oh yeah he's just the bassist but at least he gets the WWRY solo!) The "Bohemian Rhapsody" light show is great, and the audience reaction to "Tie Your Mother Down" is really awesome. Sure, "Get Down make Love" really sucks (I just don't like the song) and he sings some parts of "Now I'm Here" weird (I like Dragon Attack though), but this concert still rocks!

Movie Review: Queen rocked Montreal
Summary: 5 Stars

I was actually at this concert I only live an hour and a half from Montreal on the US side.It was the greatest show I ever saw,I read some of the reviews and they talk about lack of crowd noise.Circus magazine wrote a review back in 81 about this exact show and in their words they said the crowd was so loud that night that Queen couldn't even hear there own monitors, they also call Montreal the rock capital of the world after that show.
The DVD is great just as I remember! Enjoy

Movie Review: Queen DVD Comparison
Summary: 4 Stars

Ok here's my comparison of the 4 Queen concert DVDs.

Live Aid: By far the best, but shortest. Only 20 minutes or so of Queen, but great songs, incredible crowd energy, and transcendent performance by a certain lead singer.

On Fire At the Bowl: Second best because of a great performance, great audio mix, and great crowd energy. The crowd even sings in tune!

We Will Rock You: Third. Great performance, and highest-quality video, but the crowd energy was pathetic. Also, on louder songs, the audio mix is inconsistent.

Live At Wembley: Last, because it's too depressing. The crowd energy seemed good, but Freddy has a lot less vocal power and range than earlier, and frankly he looks sick and weak. Maybe he was just under the weather that day, but I'm afraid it was due to the illness that would take his life a few years later. Also, I'm not a fan of the super-fast editing of this show, but mainly I just couldn't bear to watch this after seeing Freddy so strong and powerful in the earlier shows.
