Movie Reviews of Puff the Magic DragonMovie Review: adventures of Jacky papper Summary: 5 Stars
This was one in a trilogy of short films the other to films being Land of Lies and Mr.Nobody. If you love this short 1970 film based on the popular children songs with Burges Merdith as the gentle dragon puff you will love this. Aword of warning fans of movies such as dragon heart and dragon heart new beginning will probably turn away from this film. But if any of you saw the movies Peets Dragon done back in mid 1960s or mid 1970s or the movie Rally way dragon or it's sequel which name I don't know you will love this movie.
Puff takes young Jacky Drapper he takes out his soul turns him into Jacky Paper together they make and epic trip to Hono Lee to teach Jacky how to be brave and face his fear. Can jack learn how to talk with out puff around and can they save the land of Hollins from the sick and fun Sneeze and restore it to its original glory. Find out in this thrilling musical filled children adventure for children of all ages. If you like this I also recommend Rail way dragon VHS, Stellaluna, Curious george, Yanke doudle cricket, and Rick Tiki Tavi in DVD format.
Movie Review: WOW! Just as great as I remembered! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this DVD for two reasons. I had great memories of it as a kid back in the 1980s, and I thought that if I could get my daughter to watch it, some of the messages would sink in. (she is a gifted child who started telling whopper lies at the ripe old age of three, and sunk into serious depression at 7 - yes she's under Dr care) I was concerned that it wasn't going to be as great as I remembered, and that my uber-techie, must be in 3D animation, 8 year old daughter wouldn't get into it. Well, it was as great as I remembered, and my daughter LOVED all three shows despite them being in "old fashioned cartoon"! Why? They all spoke to her, and while she's not self aware enough to to know why, she's old enough to relate to all the characters. My other kids - 13 and 6 - enjoyed it as well. These are timeless classics dealing with childhood depression/anxiety, lying, and being gifted.
Movie Review: A childhood favorite Summary: 5 Stars
I grew up with Peter Paul & Mary. Puff the Magic Dragon and Stewball were two of the first songs I learned. My dad would play his guitar and I would sing. When I was probably about 3 or 4, this movie came on tv and my parents recorded it for me. I LOVED it. I watched it until the tape barely worked anymore. I came across this dvd over the weekend and bought it for my daughter (22 months old). Watching it with her made me feel like a little kid again. I could remember exactly what I was thinking and feeling when I watched it twenty-some years ago. Probably a lot of my love for this movie is nostalgia, but my daughter seemed to enjoy it too. It kept her attention and she danced to most of the music. There are good morals included too, like honesty and facing your fears. Definitely worth the price.
Movie Review: Brings back a lot of memorires. Summary: 5 Stars
I used to watch this video, along with a few others at my grandmother's house. She had a lot of videos in her collections, she even had little stickers on each case with a number on it. Puff was number 96. I haden't seen it since I was about 6 or so. (I'm 21 now.)
My grandmother passed away in July, and my grandfather asked my mother to go through her things and clean up a bit, and she snatched this video (and two other things) for me. I have never been as excited to watch a video as I was today. It's still just as funny as it was 15 years ago. Only this time is was a much more emotional experience. I felt like I was back in her living room.
Movie Review: Good examples for the next generation Summary: 5 Stars
This was one of my all-time favorite cartoons as a child, and I must say even as an adult. I have 2 grandkids now, 5 and 3, girl and boy, and just introduced this to them this week. I bought the song off i-tunes and put it on a cd for them. They LOVE PUFF and the 3 year old is still learning the lyrics, but is humming it all the time.
I was surprised there were 3 cartoons on the DVD. I had never seen the other two. But they ALL have great lessons for the kids to learn and their length is great (20 minutes or so) for the very young attention span.
