Movie Reviews of PsychoMovie Review: Van Sant's direction a tribute to the original Summary: 5 Stars
This movie was terrific in that Gus Van Sant set out to tip his hat to Hitchcock, rather than "out-do" him with modern blood and guts. I can't help but admire the faithfulness to the original, while at the same time giving audiences the added visual verve of color and contemporary acting talent.Specifically, Vince Vaughn plays an exquisitely insane Norman Bates. Even his performance was, I thought, a tribute to Anthony Perkins. Anne Heche was wonderful as well. One of the real heroes of the film, performance-wise, was William H. Macy. His investigating-out-of-towner was expertly done. Also, it was a welcome surprise to see Robert Forster play the psychologist at the end of the film. All in all, a well-crafted re-make. Hats off to Gus Van Sant!
Movie Review: Much better than the original. so I guess I'm Psycho??? Summary: 5 Stars
Well, I watched this and I appreciated the acting and the color. I thought Vince was excellent and Heche was innocent and meek. Where as Julianne Moore was much better than Vera Miles along with William H. Machy who was also much better. I don't know why people hate this film but I know I didn't have a problem with the clothes and would rather see this than a person wearing black and white the entire time. So I guess cause a I like a movie with IMPROVED camera angles(like the opening crane shot) and essentially the same dialogue with much better acting and color, I guess it makes me Psycho. Oh, and I'm glad they added the sexual reference, it made sense and it was funny. Ha!
Movie Review: Don't tread on me! Summary: 5 Stars
Why can't you people leave this movie alone! It's perfect the way it is. This movie just goes to show you how an old idea, from 1960 no less, is still scary today. The acting is great, especially Vince Vaughn who is 100% better than that no talent hack Tony Perkins. Anne Heche does not beat Janet Leigh but she makes the character her own, which is what acting is all about. I am a big, big, big fan of Hitchcoks original but Norman would've been better off having been played by Jimmy Stewart. This movie deserves every bit of respect the original has because it is different and daring. So back off you vultures and give this winner some space!
Movie Review: GREAT TRIBUTE TO THE MASTER Summary: 5 Stars
I am a big fan of Hitchcock and I thought the shot by shot remake was excellent. Gus Van Zant did a great job of creating the same mood only in color...Impossible! most people would say. I found it absolutely astounding that an exact remake in color could have the same effect. And I thought all the performances were outstanding. I think it was pure genius to be able to recreate this great film to a tee. Hats off to Mr. Van Sant for having the guts to pull this off. By the way, Vince Vaughn was every bit as convincing as Anthony Perkins. I put both versions at the top of my favorite movies list, but maybe in different columns.
