Movie Reviews of PsychoMovie Review: Better than the original! Summary: 5 Stars
I never was a big fan of the original, black-and-white 'Psycho', mailnly because I've never been able to get into black-and-white movies. I'm surprised this isn't a more common problem, but I have a complete inability to suspend my disbelief at all - I mean, the world is in color! I feel like I'm watching television on Mars. I did like all three 'Psycho' sequels, and feel they improved on the poor plotting and sketchiness of the first.
When I heard that there was going to be a new, all-color remake of 'Psycho', I was pretty excited. Finally, an all-color version to take its rightful place amongst the classics (II, III, and IV). And I wasn't disappointed - from the first frame, it was evident that I was seeing a much more complete, much more scary, and much more colorful film than the first. I won't tell you how many nights I went without sleep once I saw this, but I will say there is now a rear-view mirror in my shower.
Gus Van Sant has done what I've always wanted someone to do - make the REAL 'Psycho'. I'd love to see him tackle II, III, and IV next, and see what he does with them - but he better not do them in black and white!
Movie Review: This was a great new stylish view on "Psycho" Summary: 5 Stars
I am a huge fan of the original. And I was not at all worried if they had made new modifications on the script. Fortunately, for the die-hard fans, they didn't. But some people decided to complain about it being too close to the original. I don't care! The color keeps the younger audiences and even the adults, more entertained! It may have been the same movie, but the actors were GREAT! Not to mention, Vince Vaughn had a new querky sense to Norman Bates. The score was beautifully remastered, the new Bates' house was actually creepier than the original, and the costuming was an intristing mix between contemporary and 60's. William H. Macy does an excellant job portraying the detective as well! The major thing I liked was the extreme saturation of the colors. This film is very unique, and some of the minor changes are actually very nice and stylish! The original remains my favorite movie of all time, but this is something I prefer to show my friends who have never seen it before! It was an excellant modernization!
Movie Review: Way better than the first!! Summary: 5 Stars
this movie should have been the real psycho instead of that sorry, cheesy, good for nothing piece of crap of the first psycho...lets face it,, the original was good back in the day, still i dont understand why people tend to say "original is best"..well, that is not true...one of the things that i like about the new psycho is the trailer that shows the eye along with an owl flying away ,it really looked creepy and original....the shower scene was excellent,,it shows it like it was meant to be...not with that silly tune the first movie used has....i always support re-makes because in a way,,,they help correct the mistakes that originals have...in other words,,they take the corny stuff out, and give it a new gloss....the fact is THE OLDER THE MOVIE THE CHEESIER IT IS like it or not...Then you have this other type of people that compare the movie to the book....ENTERTAINMENT IS NOT ENGLISH LITERATURE 101, GET IT OVER YOUR HEADS!!!! its just a movie......I give the new psycho a 5 and recommend it to anybody......
Movie Review: Great DVD package, great experimental film.... Summary: 5 Stars
My God! Everyone is so defensive when it comes to the original 'Psycho'. This film was never supposed to be better than the original and it isn't. But on a positive note, as an 'experimental' film, it holds up well. For those who haven't seen the original and watch this, it makes for an interesting film because modern thrillers aren't filmed this way anymore. The whole cast goes out of their way to deliver a performance that is totally different to the original giving their own interpretations of the characters and in some cases go to greater depth than some of the original cast members. The film also looks fabulous in its fluro colour scheme and features some great filming from legendary Aussie cinematographer Chris Doyle. The DVD too has some great extras including a very interesting documentary of which you will unnderstand why Van Sant wanted to do this. The commentary is very interesting too. A MUST for film buffs no matter what your opinion of this 'experimental' and highly underrated film.
Movie Review: Excellent Film Summary: 5 Stars
this movie was excellent. the critics bashed this film before they even saw it. i am a teen who hates stupid slasher films that have no good story or character development, and thought this was a more psychological film than anything else. the characters were really put together well (better than original), and the director put a few needed touches, and updated the script to make it more nineties. the acting was great, all adding they're own different takes on the characters. i thought it was really fun, and would think this was better than the original if i didn't know what was going to happen. the extras for this dvd are great. especially the commentary by Vaughn, Van Sant, and Heche, often hilarious. And to the review above: the masterbating scene was necessary in relation to norman's desire for marion.
