Movie Reviews of Psycho II

Movie Review: Hollywood will work for an original idea
Summary: 3 Stars

Although I was too young to realize it at the time, I realize now that cinema companies are always looking to make more profits. Psycho, considered the godfather of horror movies, wasn't immune from corporate greed and unoriginal idea. I wondered then why a sequal was made to Psycho, and why it took so long for them to put one out. Looking back, I realize that this was part of the early 80s slasher film trend. Still, this movie was alright.

Norman has been released from the psychiatric hospital, told he is sane and has gotten over his problems. He goes back to the only place that he has known and all he has left, his mother's home at the Bates motel, long since abandoned. He will inevitably fall back into his old behaviors, and go right back to being as crazy as he was before. We will see some quotes and scenes from the original ("Just sandwiches and milk"), some cameo appearences by the original cast members, and the redeterioration of Norman's mind. A little hoaky, but it was an entertaining movie.

Movie Review: In comparison to the original Masterpiece.....
Summary: 1 Stars

There is a line of defense for Psycho 2 by most reviewers who recognize the greatness of Hitchock's original Psycho (and possibly best work) which is a fair judgment. However if Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho would be compared to a faithful and beautiful German Shepard and if that dog died...Psycho 2 would be like getting another dog to replace the original with a retarded dog that would urinate and defecate all over your house.

Yes, the film attempts to make the audience sympathize with newly released and possibly cured Norman Bates who moves back to the same house and eventually works at the same hotel but the absolute ridiculousness applied to the time and coincidence of events in this film requires shutting off your brain to just simply be entertained.
Any of Hitchcock's film would never require you to shut off your brain but they always challenged the viewer to put your brian in overdrive and brought an engaging story and a well written and well executed plot that always paid off.

Psycho 2 should be avoided if you are a die hard Hitchcock fan, if you are a horror fan who is used to crappy sequels to original greats than perhaps you will find it mildly entertaining.

Movie Review: Psycho II - Why Bother?
Summary: 1 Stars

I was really surprised how poorly made this film was. The acting was shockingly bad and to have big names like Miles and Perkins turn out such poor performances was really a sad surprise. The plot was ridiculous and it is amazing such solid and talented actors like Miles and Perkins would bother with such a production. Very disappointing, and I would not recommend this movie on any level, and is a good example of the 80s camp that was the trademark of the slasher films during that time period. It's obvious they just wanted to capitalize on the glory of the first film and it feels like they didn't even try to put something of quality together. No one is likeable in this movie, which raises the big question of who is the protagonist? Doesn't leave much to work with. Stick with the original. It took these people 20+ years to come up with this stuff? They shouldn't have even bothered. How many people really want to see two old ladies graphically murdered? I kid you not, one gets knifed through the face and the other hit over the head with a shovel. It's really a sad excuse for a movie. Alfred Hitchcock would be ashamed of them.
