Movie Reviews of Protesting the Dixie ChicksMovie Review: A Powerful and Entertaining Window into American Culture Summary: 5 Stars
Dixie Chicks' singer Natalie Maines' notorious cut at the president is a
media story that just won't leave us, will it? However, mainstream media
has only scratched the surface of what it means to the American public.
Don't expect to find the same redundant Fox News and CNN sound bites and
slogans in this film. Instead, you'll want to brace yourself for some
truly unique American discourse within this odyssey into the dark side of
patriotism. It's heavy metal parking lot meets the sophistication of Errol
Morris or Spike Lee. This film is a historical time capsule and I watched
it as if I had my eyes pressed against a fishbowl of quirky American
culture. I'm not particularly a Dixie Chicks music fan; I love this film
for the sociopolitical issues and its stark moments of human nature,
though I can see how this profound and ongoing dialog is strongly
appealing to Dixie Chicks fans and anti-fans alike.
