Movie Reviews of Promises

Movie Review: Outstanding Introduction to A Complex Topic
Summary: 5 Stars

I just want to add my voice to the other reviewers who praise Promises. Their descriptions will give you a good idea about the films contents so I'll just say, this is a very moving and informative film. Most of my reviews are from the stand-point of a middle school teacher looking for materials to use in my class. This film is outstanding! It's the type of lesson you'll be excited to teach. If you are looking for something to use to explore and learn about Israel and Palestinian relations buy this DVD. I thought the length of the DVD would lose my students. I was wrong-- they stayed engaged through the whole film (about 3 class periods).

Movie Review: Cried my eyes out! The answer to peace lies right here!
Summary: 5 Stars

Not too many movies bring me to tears, but this one certainly does! This film shows the greatest solution to peace and resolution of the conflict. Children on both sides and their perspectives are shared and exposed. They later go on to meet each other and play with each other followed by a very emotionally touching and meaningful discussion. B.Z. Goldberg deserves a ton of kudos for making all this possible and hope he does this type of project with more children. It's only through the integration of Jewish and Palestinian children that we will have any hope of stopping the conflict and making peace!

Movie Review: Best Movie I have ever seen!
Summary: 5 Stars

Promises is the best movie I have ever seen. It truly has changed my life and given me such a passion for the Arab-Israeli Peace Process. I was moved by this documentary and taped it from PBS and have watched it countless late nights when I should have been sleeping, but the stories just draw me back and I weep everytime I watch. This film is so important, because it looks at both sides of the issue and examines real individuals involved in the conflict. It truly gives a human face to a struggle that is so easily ignored as a second page newstory.

Movie Review: Balanced
Summary: 5 Stars

A must see, this documentary was both touching as well as balanced showing both the Palestinian and the Israeli viewpoints. More significantly, it outlined the nature of radicalism on both sides, yet it also portrayed a very human face of both sides (Palestinian and Israeli). This is a particularly important documentary for all those that find it hard to humanize the 'other'and that feel that the 'other' side (whether Palestinian or Israeli)is unanimously radical.

Movie Review: Reflects Their Experience
Summary: 5 Stars

I spent several months in Palestine and Israel in 1999 and knew many Israeli and Palestinian children. This movie's reflection of their lives and views truly reflects the children's experience. I have also heard B.Z. speak, and he's a thoughtful and impressive director.
Although slightly outdated given the current intifada, this movie is an excellent film for those wanting to understand the views of both Palestinians and Israelis.
