Movie Reviews of Prince of Darkness

Movie Review: So close...
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a very strange movie to review. Most people, upon seeing it for the first time, will dismiss it as a laughable b-movie. The thing about it, is that Carpenter comes THIS close to creating a masterpiece that would rival "The Exorcist".

"Prince of Darkness", if you give it another viewing or two, you will realize how close he came to greatness. Maybe if the budget had been higher, or if the cast had been a little more 'A list'. If you have seen many Carpenter movies, you will recognize many of the faces from his other movies, including a few from "Big Trouble In Little China", which itself is not just a good bad movie; it is a GREAT bad movie. But then, it's the cheesiness and low budget feel that makes it a Carpenter project.

This is a truly scary movie because the fear comes from the ideas presented, not bogeymen jumping out of closets. It invokes the concept of Quantum Physics, that things can be 'dreamed into existence', making almost anything, including true evil, possible.

To quote an actual scientist that I heard speak a while back: "If quantum physics doesn't scare the holy crap out of you...you don't understand quantum physics."

Movie Review: Can never remember the title...
Summary: 4 Stars

I've spent most of the night trying to remember the name of this movie and as soon as I found it, I had to come here and purchase it.

To say the least, this movie is "different". I fear you either love this one, or hate it. I happen to love it. Not because it's a good movie, but because it absolutely freaked me out when I first saw it a decade and a half ago.

Considering the theme of this movie, alot of what is used to make it work is far-fetched and doesn't make much sense. BUT, it's still very creepy and really keeps hold of your mind until it's over. Carpenter just uses unconventional ways to do something that has been done before, but instead of being stupid, it's quite refreshing...just still very weird. I think it adds something positive to this movie, though.

Rent it if you haven't seen it, but if you liked it the first time, I think it will have aged well for you.

Movie Review: My 2 cents
Summary: 4 Stars

Some very good reviews of this DVD... This is an under appreciated gem of a story that doesnt translate as well as some would like to the screen medium. Small budgets tend to hamper awesome FX and top flight actors but thats not the only reason some of us watch movies. Some scenes are there stictly for the gross factor, but it doesn't get in the way of some fine story telling. Some of the notions, such as the 'dream-transmissions' are both chilling and just down right cool. No cheats in this one.

This movie is deffinatly one of the best horror that acually creep you out thats ever been made.there are plenty of moments that are deffinatly spooky and if i described them it would spoil their effectiveness.the storry is also really good in this and it adds to the creep factor if you pay attention to it.the last half of the movie especially get to you, make sure you watch this one in the dark and youll see what im saying.this dvd belongs in every horror fans collection, trust me.

Movie Review: "Great Carpenter 80's Horror!"
Summary: 4 Stars

Donald Pleasence and Jameson Parker star in John Carpenter's
1987 horror film. A priest and graduate students discover an
ancient evil turning out to be Satan. Alice Copper also makes
an appearance and this dvd has good picture and sound, but
only a trailer. I recommend this great Carpenter 80's horror
film.
