Movie Reviews of Prince of Darkness

Movie Review: Develop a new phobia
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the creepiest movies I have ever seen. It is not a slasher film, so don't look for lots of scantily clad hot chics and brutal violence. This is a CREEPY movie and it will have you not getting very close to any mirrors for awhile.

Seems that a secret order of Catholic priests have been in charge of this ... container... for awhile. Inside the container is the evil essense of Satan himself. A team of scientists is called in to study an increase in the activity level of the green vapor inside. Sequestered in the spooky old monastery they begin having the same cryptic dream ... and the 'goo' starts getting out. As the satanic stuff begins physically manifesting itself, the street people ('led' by Alice Cooper) and the bugs begin to behave very oddly. As more of the cryptic dream starts coming up and trapped in the church by the oddly behaving street people and cockroaches, it is up to the research team to stop the release of Satan into the world. Very spooky, this is an excellent thriller.

Movie Review: John Carpenter once again works his evil spell
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been a long time fan of Mr. Carpenter's films whether they be good(Halloween, The Thing, Assault on Precinct 13, The Fog, Escape From New York, Dark Star, or Starman) or less than his best(They Live, Escape From L.A., or Memoirs Of An Invisible Man) and this film is one of his better efforts.
After a priest dies, his co-workers contact a collage and has a physics class come to study an ancient liquid stored in a church. What we find out is that the liquid is Satan's very essence, and he wants out to bring his big daddy Anti-God here to rule the world. The liquid begins to leak and starts to take over the group one by one.
Doesn't sound like much, but in Mr. Carpenter's hands you get a first rate little horror movie that also has a little food for thought to go along with the scares. The science used here is real,as the blurb on this site states and that makes it just a little more creepier.
Maybe not for all taste, but it works better than you might think. Give it a try.

Movie Review: Smart B movie horror
Summary: 5 Stars

Prince of Darkness is a great dark film by John Carpenter. Really, has he ever made an upbeat film ( well, maybe Starman ). Anyway, the film is a nice marriage between religion and quantum physics. In other words, you can become smarter after viewing this film. Smart script in hand, John Carpenter's direction is without peer. His camera angles are unmistakable. The viewer is treated to some nice panoramic shots thanks to Carpenter's love of widescreen. Carpenter's talent shines bright as with all his other low budget successes.(Halloweeen, The Fog, Escape From New York).
The performances are memorable, Donald Pleasance is a nutty priest; Victor Wong is a college Professor of Quantum Physics, and Jameson Parker plays the lead out of a group of VERY unlucky students trying to earn some extra credit over the weekend.
Carpenter's music, direction, and flair for the evil combined with a strong cast make 'Prince of Darkness' a winner in the book of Creepy and entertaining.

Movie Review: One of the best horror films EVER!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

To say I love this movie, would be an understatment. It is my favorite horror flick ever. This film mixes horror, suspense, the requisite gore, love, friendship, science, and humor, all the while making me think "hey, it could happen". Alice Cooper cracks me up and he never says a word. The scenes where the future contacts the present and the scene where Lisa Blount saves the world are the best. The suspense in that Lisa Blount/Devil scene kills me every time. I am on the edge of my seat. Mind you, I have seen this movie hundreds of time. It still gets me every single time. If you are looking for a movie where barely clothed cheerleaders run around screaming, this is not the movie for you. If you want to be entertained and think a bit while you do, this IS the movie for you. I agree with the one review: this is probably a you either love it or hate it type movie. Give it a chance. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Movie Review: Satan In A Jar...
Summary: 5 Stars

PRINCE OF DARKNESS is one of John Carpenter's (Halloween, The Fog, The Thing, Cigarette Burns) better movies. The idea of pure eeevil imprisoned in a bottle is a good one, especially when it finds its way out! Carpenter uses a group of scientists turned paranormal investigators to represent logic in the face of overwhelming insanity. Donald Pleasence ( Flesh And The Fiends, Halloween 1 and 2, Escape From New York, Alone In The Dark, Phenomena, etc.) plays the priest who gets them into this mess. POD has many classic moments, including a man flenced by voracious beetles, an impalement by bicycle, and a woman impregnated and mutated by the devil! There's also a horde of homeless people / zombies led by a silent Alice Cooper! Yep, this one is vintage Carpenter, packed w/ doom and dread! Buy immediately...
