Movie Review: Mayhem in Manchester

Jane is transferred to Manchester and the three young people working under her are thrilled to be working with the well known and sophisticated London DCI, Jane Tennison, while her boss, the married DCS Ballinger is definitely interested in an affair. All of this is quite different from her London experiences, but a little disconcerting, too. Jane is not sure who to trust and who to believe.
A drug dealer is killed. When a young boy confesses, Jane doesn't believe him, but a sociopathic drug lord named "The Street" who is also looking for the killer, isn't sure. The Street always seems to be a few steps ahead of her in her investigation and Jane believes that one of her crew, possibly DI Devanney, a female detective, is supplying him with information.
Nothing is as it seems and there are a lot of surprises and many suspenseful scenes in this BBC movie before Jane puts all of it together. This is a violent, but superior drama in a superior English series.
