Movie Reviews of Primary ColorsMovie Review: A Lasting Surprise Summary: 5 Stars

Le Vésinet, France
When "Primary Colors" first came out I initially had no intention of seeing it, despite my
interest in the subject because I had classified John Travolta as a non-actor. But a friend
who had seen the film and was disturbed by it, asked if I thought the film reflected reali-
ties. The question disturbed me because I could not imagine why he asked it. So I went
to the film, expecting a turkey. I thought the casting director must have been a very close
friend of the actors chosen.
Well, not too many seconds after the film began, my pulse began to flutter. This was just not
a film like any others I had ever seen. The film made real for me all sorts of facts that had simply
been abstractions when I encountered them in textbooks or was exposed to them in
the media. I was watching reality like a voyeur looking through a keyhole. I felt some embarrassment,
but I continued watching. I was hypnotized.
Now, how then did I react to John Travolta? Well, I was aghast with astonishment! What an extraordinary
performance! I honestly cannot imagine how anyone could have played the part better.
I haven't made a list lately of my all-time favorite films lately, but when I do "Primary Colors"
will among those at the very near the top.

Movie Review: Excellent Movie, Fine Comedy, Couldn't Possibly Happen Summary: 5 Stars
This terrific tale of a sleazy politician is extremely entertaining, and thank goodness it is fiction. Can you imagine the self-values that voters would have to compromise, to support an unsavory candidate like this in real life? Can you imagine any self-respecting female standing by a man like this, who routinely treats women (especially his wife) like garbage? Such supporters would have to totally flush their morals and integrity down the toilet -- they would have to actively condoning lying, adultery and worse, in backing the sort of human dreck that John Travolta marvelously portrayed in this film. That's why fiction is such a wonderful medium. The screenwriters created a magnificent fantasy world wherein a cheap little self-interested, self-serving political hack elevated himself into major election competition.
We can be relieved that America's major political parties are too honorable to ever put forward, and/or stand by, a candidate of this poor quality (along with his clinging, equally opportunistic Evita-like wife, who acts blind to all of his disgusting behavior while busy with her own advancement). "Primary Colors" is an entertaining romp through a made-up, totally empty male character's putrid story, and we should be grateful with every breath we take that a political scenario this disgusting could never occur in the real world.
Movie Review: Remake, anyone? Summary: 5 Stars
It would be wonderful truly, if someone as courageous as Joe Klein would write a roman à clef (novel with a key,"i.e., describing real life), about the façade of Barack Obama's presidential campaign.
Whether or not they do, however, Mike Nichols' movie is an awesome portrayal of the Bill and Hillary Clinton façade in their first, 1992 campaign for the White House, complete with a suicide due to their dastardly betrayals of the public trust.
Hard to believe John Travolta, famed for his role in 1977's hit movie, Saturday Night Fever, could so masterfully play a slick and slimy politician. At least it proves that Hollywood is not all typecasting. Some presumed has-beens actually can act.
Then again, Travolta also has an amazing supporting cast--with Emma Thompson as Mrs. Stanton (i.e., Hillary, soon-to-be Secretary of State), and Kathy Bates (a standout in Frankie and Johnie in the Claire de la Lune) as the Stantons' demoralized campaign stalwart.
The film is tremendous, albeit not terribly complimentary of the U.S. political system. And I say that knowing that the U.S. remains the best country in the world.

Movie Review: Bill and Hillary Summary: 5 Stars
Although the author denies any connection between this book and the Clintons, it is quite obvious after reading it that the book is based 100% on the Clintons. Right down to Bill's indescretions with the ladies and the way 'he' approaches everything. Of course, the characters are renamed and there are a few more colorful characters thrown in to spice their life up even more. I also watched the movie version of the book and that really screamed out 'Clintons'. I have no idea why the author couldn't write a book about their actual lives. Maybe he smelled 'lawsuit'. Either way, this book follows the characters throught an election bid and the trials and tribulations that occurs mainly due to the runners life upsets. A 'lady' steps forward with tapes of the 'president' talking dirty to her on the telephone (sound familiar)? He also sleeps with a young girl of a friend. Not an intern but on the same kind of line. I do fully recommend this book and the movie too. In the movie, a plumped up John Travolta plays 'Clinton' and what a wonderful job he does. See for yourselves.
Movie Review: great political movie Summary: 5 Stars
i love Primary Colors.
the story, the outline, the situations, and best of all, the cast. everything about this movie is awsome.
Jack Stanton is a southern governor who is running for the democratic nomination for President, and Henry, who is the son of a civil rights leader, joins on board in this one of a kind campaign classic comedy that presents real life situations such as the moral questions behind political leaders and their real political movtivations.
Stanton is confronted with stories of dodging the Vietnam War and being arrested, then having his record exsponged by the Chicago Mayor. Rumors of adultry threaten to end his political campaign and all along, his wife, almost blindly, is willing to ignore her husbands faults so long as they gain the prize.
this is a very good movie and really begs the question, just how far and how much are you willing to give up to gain the top spot, in this case, the White House.
funny movie and Billy Bob Thorton is awsome!!!!
highly recommend this film.
