Movie Reviews of Pride and PrejudiceMovie Review: Wonderful story, great movie! Summary: 5 Stars
I have been watching this movie since childhood ~ over forty years ago...and I can never get enough of it!
The only point I would make, and it is a minor one, is that the costumes are not of the right period and place...more of a Southern Belle 'look' than that of 19th Century England.
However, that said, the writing and characterizations are marvelous!
How can we go wrong when taking our ideas from writers like Jane Austen?? Our characters from actors like Lord Olivier, Greer Garson, Edna May Oliver, et al.??

Movie Review: Been waiting for this! Summary: 5 Stars
I have been waiting for this DVD forever. It's a great movie and an honestly timeless story. Olivier and Garson are awesome together and play the parts perfectly. I haven't watched the actual DVD yet so I am not sure on the quality but if it's better than the VHS (which I'm sure it is) I will be very happy. The newest version of Pride and Prejudice was also a great adaptation but didn't leave as much open as this version did. I have always loved this movie since I was young. The shipping was fast and I got exactly what I ordered for a good price!
Movie Review: Beautiful version...classic Hollywood at its best! Summary: 5 Stars
This version is set in the 1830s, although Austen's original story was placed in the very early 1800s. I'm glad they decided to do this, since the 1830s era is so little represented in film. The costumes are magnificent, it really makes a costume historian wish the movie was in color.
A very good note, if you pay very close attention, you can tell that the screen writers for the 2005 Pride and Prejudice, used this script when they were writing. Much of the dialog and even physical actions have been copied!
Movie Review: Always a favorite Summary: 5 Stars
Pride and Prejudice has always been my favorite book and movie. This is the original with the best actors and is also truest to the book. It is a black and white movie but within a few minutes you won't even realize it isn't in color, as the story will grab you if you have a romantic bone in your body.
The cast is outstanding and makes all the re-makes of Pride and Prejudice seem pale and less interesting. A joy to watch, over and over. I am so glad to have a DVD as I have worn out my old taped copy.
Movie Review: One of My Favorite Pictures! Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of my favorite motion pictures. I saw this at the Dryden Theatre several years ago and I found it charming. The movie is not only based on the Jane Austen book but also a play which had been on Broadway. The screenplay is by Aldous Huxley of Brave New World fame. Greer Garson and Lawrence Olivier make the perfect Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. The setting is smooth and romantic. A perfect MGM film based on a classic. Highly recommended.
