Movie Reviews of Prairie Fever

Movie Review: Entertaining movie
Summary: 5 Stars

Loved this movie, but then I love most things with Kevin Sorbo. He's funny and sexy and a very good actor. This was a fun, entertaining movie, with heart and humor. Would highly recommend it.

Movie Review: Sorbo delivers another great performance!
Summary: 5 Stars

After his solid performance in Avenging Angel,I wasn't sure what to expect from Kevin Sorbo in Prairie Fever. He didn't disappoint. Here he plays a down and out ex-sheriff,driven to the bottle by grief & guilt after losing his wife in a bank heist gone awry. He gets a chance at redemption when he agrees to transport three women, all suffering from prairie fever, back to civilization. Along with sharpshooter Olivia, who he first saw in the Clearwater saloon,he battles not only the desert, but two guys he put in prison years earlier and the husband of one of the women he's been paid to transport. Also on their trail is Olivia's partner,Monte, played superbly by Lance Henrickson. It all makes for one heck of an adventure. Included in the dvd are two interesting interviews, one with Kevin Sorbo and the other with Henrickson. If you love westerns, you should definitely add this one to your collection!

Movie Review: 17 brides and 3 returns
Summary: 4 Stars

The west was made by mail order brides.Sarah Plain & Tall Collection [Gold Crown Collector's Edition] is about one such lady.
This is the second Kevin Sorbo western I've seen, and I think this is better
than the first. It is well filmed and very well acted.
Dealing with the frontier is not easy even for those brought up on hardship.
If you subtract love and friendship. it can break people.
Here we have a good and bad outcome and more than one redeemed soul.

Movie Review: your basic western
Summary: 3 Stars

For those of you Jonesing for a Western fix, this will do until something better comes along.

Preston Biggs (Kevin Sorbo) has a pile of troubles. He was the sheriff in some little nothing Western town until he gunned down his wife by accident during a bank heist. The bank robbers were taken care of by his deputy; he descended into a well of alcoholism. Fast forward 2 years.

Preston Biggs is a has-been, hanging out in the local saloon. He witnesses a card-game cheat; the personna vitae are a card shark and his wife (?) Mr and Mrs James, played by Lance Henriksen and Dominique Swain. I have to admit I stuck with the film because of Henriksen; I've been a fan for years. He really has a very small part in this, however. Preston gets involved in a bar brawl with two former arrests, who belt him silly and manage to get away. Preston awakens in the town lockup (for security purposes)being strangled by a lady he's never met. He manages to get away from her, and awakes hours later to find the sheriff holding court over his incarcerated subjects. To gain freedom, Preston agrees to escort the lady in the next cell - the one who tried to strangle him - and two others to the rail head to be transported back home. (The ladies were mail-order brides who didn't work out).

It becomes clear soon that there are three agencies intent on disrupting Mr Biggs' agenda: the two yahoos who beat him up in the saloon: the former husband and his brother of one of the ladies he's transporting, whose sole incentive is the money Mr Biggs is being paid to get the ladies to the train: and the character of Mr James, the shyster card shark, who is searching for his 'wife', who has made a break for it, tied him up, and made off with her share of his take - and who subsequently ties up with Mr Biggs and his wagonful of mail-order brides.

There are no real surprises here; pretty straightforward Western-formula stuff, but still not too hard to get sucked into. I really meant to go to bed, but found myself wanting resolution, so I ended up watching the whole thing. There is some good dialogue; very predictable outcome, but watchable all the same. Kevin Sorbo does his best with a limited storyline, and the women are all pretty good. I stuck with it, admittedly, for Lance Henriksen, who I'm not used to seeing as a bad guy; he did his role admirably. Dominique Swain, as the strong female lead, performed well with a limited script. The movie is not boring, and for those of you looking for a Western, since there are so few being produced, it's not too bad.
