Movie Reviews of Practical Magic (Snap Case Packaging)

Movie Review: widescreen version somewhat of a let down
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this movie and couldn't wait to own the dvd. The special features were pretty cool but I wish a version for the tv screen was available. There are scenes from the trailers, which were formatted for tv, that had parts cut-off from the widescreen version (like the shoes that Sandra was wearing in some of the scenes.) And because this movie has so much to offer visually, the widescreen version made the details harder to see which I found annoying. Also, maybe I'm the only one with this problem, but doesn't the dvd jacket say there are 11 theatrical trailers? I found 4: one under trailers and three under tv spots. Was it a typo or am I missing something. If anyone figures it out please email me and let me know. Needless to say, I'll be buying the video as soon as it comes out.

Movie Review: Blue eye, green eye.
Summary: 5 Stars

Practical Magic starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman is a pleasant surprise. This little and under-rated film is adorable, quirky, and bewitching of course. You would think that two actress' who are supposed to play sisters and look nothing alike couldn't pull it off but their chemistry works like well...magic. Kidman looks drop dead gorgeous in this film and Bullock is still as spunky as ever. Aidan Quinn plays an admirer of Bullock's character, they are so good looking together. Look for a young Evan Rachel Wood (Thirteen), she plays Bullock's daughter in the film. This film is directed by actor Griffin Dunne. I recommend watching the audio commentary, very interesting. Practical Magic sure knows how to make a pair of modern-day witches like charming, a must-see!

Movie Review: Bewitching!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Start with a cauldron of boiling water.. add a handfull of the best script pages ever written.. stir in some incredible dialogue.. add a pinch of romantic charm and a dash of witty self confidence.. throw in a strange tale of death and resurresction.. bring to a simmer and pour in two witty, fun and tenacious actresses (Diane Weist and Stockard, how could anyone not love her, Channing), a hot detective (Aidan Quinn), and two of hollywoods sexiest sirens (Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman) and let simmer for an hour and 45 minutes.. you will come out with a dish that deserves to be names the most charming and endearing romantic comedy ever.. not to mention that it's about witches.. I love this movie.. i will always love this movie.. must see.. must own..

Movie Review: One of my favorite films
Summary: 5 Stars

This has long been one of my favorite "feel good" movies, and when my VHS tape finally burned out, I decided to invest in a DVD. I am glad I did, as the extras are great, along with the movie. I was thrilled to find it for a reasonable cost, and the service was three times faster than I expected it to be. It was supposed to be here by the 24th of the month and it got here two weeks earlier than that. I have never been disappointed in the acting in this movie, the story is very good, and it ends well. While it is quite different from the book by Alice Hoffman, that doesn't seem to detract from it for me. However, I will say that I didn't read the book until after I had seen the movie. It might be different if I had done it the other way around.

Movie Review: An amazing movie that surpasses a great book
Summary: 5 Stars

How often do you watch a movie based on a book and discover that the movie is just as good, or perhaps better?! That is what happens with Practical Magic. The book, by Alice Hoffman, is gripping and interesting (I read it in about three hours), but the movie suprasses it. Sandra Bullock plays Sally beautifully, and Nicole Kidman plays Gillian with ease. The young girls who play Kylie and Antoinetta are amazing, and the aunts are played to perfection. Griffin Dunne doesn't disappoint with great camera direction. I can't praise this movie enough. It is a little confusing at times, and doesn't follow the book much at all, but the creative license that the writers, actors, and director took make the adventure all the better. It's a great choice!
