Movie Reviews of Practical Magic (Snap Case Packaging)Movie Review: A Pleasing Bit of Movie Magic Summary: 5 Stars
When I find a movie that both I and my husband like it is a rare find indeed. That's what happened with Practical Magic. Having read the book and enjoyed it immensely it was a natural for me to want the movie.
Although the movie version deviates from the book and the viewer loses much of the backstory, it is lovingly adapted and given wonderful treatment. The scenes of the young sisters living in the aunts house especially were full of detail. Costuming was wonderful (in the case of the ecentric aunts especially). Cinematography captured all of the essence of New England in various seasons and made this native New Englander a bit nostalgic.
If you've read the book keep an open mind here and you will enjoy the film immensely. While all of the actors gave solid performances I mostly enjoyed Stockard Channing's portrayal of Aunt Frances.
I think this movie could easily replace Hocus Pocus as a Halloween favorite.
Movie Review: There is a little Witch in us All Summary: 5 Stars
A wonderfully made movie! Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are phenomenal together!!! Two witches want to be living very different lives. Sally (Sandra Bullock) wants to live a `normal life' and not have everyone look at her if she is evil. She gets that by marrying a local boy and having two beautiful daughters, unfortunately, her perfect life is not going to last. There is a curse on the family where the men eventually die after a short period of time. Gillian (Nicole Kidman) on the other hand is the wild sister who likes to go out and party. Yet, she to has a problem of her own when Jimmy Angelo, her Texas vampire-like boyfriend, abducts her. Sally has to go and save her but can these to witches save themselves from the curse and the resurrection of a dead Jimmy Angelo? This movie is for anyone who likes to have a little magic in their lives. I highly recommend it; I can just sit and watch it over and over again.
Movie Review: Stockard Channing and Sandra Bullock Steal the Film! Summary: 5 Stars
The initial release of this movie had some Wiccans complaining that it wasn't fully accurate of the religion. We must remember, it's Hollywood and they do take liberties with "facts" for effect and entertainment. On the plus side, this is probably the most Wiccan friendly film available that explains some of the Earth based tenets within the Craft. Sandra Bullock will make you laugh and certainly make you cry. The scenes where we see her frustration penetrates the audience like a beacon. Only the heartless of the world could possibly be unaffected. Additionally, Stockard Channing acted her butt off along with the rest of the cast. The whole film came across as though they had a wonderful time making it. It is a cute romantic comedy with whacky aunts, a wild sister and a boyfriend from hell, LITERALLY. It's worth the purchase and should get a number or repeat viewings when you need a little pick me up.

Movie Review: My favorite movie since... jr. high, actually! Summary: 5 Stars
Yes, I am perfectly aware that this movie strays far and away from the book (which I also happen to love). However, I think the wonderful themes were kept and the story changed enough to give this film its own magic.
I like it because it tells the tales of two very different women who happen to be sisters. I like sisterhood tales because I'm sentimental that way. And, call me a sucker, but I loved the dreamy romance. I know relatively little about Wicca and don't wish to accidentally offend anyone, but I kind of liked the witchcraft this film portrayed. It was pretty, classic, and properly spooky.
Nicole Kidman is a goddess and Sandra Bullock is as cute as they come. The rest of the cast certainly held their own.
It's cute, spooky, and gives warm fuzzies. That's good enough for me and I have proclaimed this my favorite movie for about ten years now.
