Movie Reviews of Portrait of Jennie

Movie Review: A Portrait of Love!
Summary: 5 Stars

"Portrait of Jennie" is a fascinating exercise of a most inimitable romance between the mysterious Junoesque like Jennie and struggling artist Eben Adams. Hollywood A-Lister's Joseph Cotten and the beautiful Jennifer Jones provide captivating performances in a tale of an artist and his poetic inspiration.

In a unique cinematic exhibition, the movie, filmed mostly in B&W changes to a green tint during a stormy scene, changing to sepia for an adjacent scene and ending up in full Technicolor as the camera zooms in to the completed "Portrait of Jennie".

Dimitri Tiomkin's celestial musical score is another delightful aspect of this movie. All thru the film you will hear Claude Debussy's Arabesque #1 and other Debussy works.

A most delightful 86 minutes of entertainment.

Movie Review: LOST IN TIME
Summary: 5 Stars

Joseph Cotten and Jennifer Jones deliver exceptional performances ( as do Ethel Barrymore, and Lillian Gish ) in this atmospheric, love story. The opening narrative, and some of the cumbersome dialogue that Jones, in particular, occasionally was forced to utter in the film is allayed by her, otherwise, very convincing depiction of the 'hauntingly,' beautiful, other-worldly, Jenny at various ages. Cotten, as a struggling artist, whose cynicism is more a mask for his innate romanticism, than his poverty, was never better. The chemistry between the two leads is magical. The cinematography is luscious, surreal, and sumptuously layers this dream-like story of obsession, and doomed love.

Movie Review: A Classic Love Story
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this for myself because I love stories that are mysterious as this one was, never forgot it from when I was a kid. It still plays well as far as I am concerned and I enjoy watching it once or twice a year when my mood craves it.

It was shipped and arrived very quickly, in good condition and exactly as represented by the vendor.

I recommend this movie to anyone that likes "Old Movies" that play around with "TIME" and Life events, not for those who have trouble following plots in my opinion but perhaps purchasing and viewing a few times will be all it takes to allow you to figure it out and become a "Fan" of the Movie...

Movie Review: DVD Portrait of Jennie
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a classic love story probably from around the late 1930's, shot in black and white as most movies were at the time with many scenes almost dream-like. It featured the top stars of the day that included Joesph Cotten, Gene Tierney, and the rock solid Ethel Barrymore. The movie is about a portrait of the same name that was supposed to have hung in the New York City Museum of Art. By the way, this is the only black and white movie I know of that ends in full color on the final scene, a shot of museum visitors asking about the artist who painted the young and beautiful innocent woman that is the "Portrait of Jennie."

Movie Review: Love this movie one of my all time favs
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of my all time favorite movies, have loved this since I was a teen and watched it.I first read the book which the movie followed and then saw the movie. I often felt it was a true story, I did look for information on the museum and such to try to find out if it was real. I still feel in my heart it could be because I believe in miracles.Whether it is or not doesn't really matter---it is what we believe in our hearts that does and this love story is so compelling it makes you believe. I love old movies and this is a true classic. Watch and enjoy and allow the magic to happen to you.
