Movie Review: Recent albums more interesting, but terrific live band.

I have to admit, I'm more interested in THE INCIDENT and BLANK PLANET albums, but PT is a VERY TIGHT live combo, and always sound terrific. This concert video, for me, is a really entertaining overview of some of the material they were doing ten years or so ago up to DEADWING. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who's not interested in their earlier music.
PT has very a straightforward approach compared to other artists that fall into the progressive category: very clean production sounds, along with melodies and vocal stylings that are very smooth and well-crafted. They excel at composing arrangements that always do a nice job of showing variations in range, pitch, rhythm, and the ability to effectively switch from very soft & quiet to very heavy, powerful and loud. Their greatest strength, I believe, is this: there is never anything on a PT album that they cannot perform or reproduce in concert; I personally take great stock in how good a band is at such a thing. It's a very important trait in regard to being a good live band, and that characteristic is in full display in this video. I just wish they would release a video with more of the recent music being performed.
