Movie Reviews of Porcupine Tree: Arriving SomewhereMovie Review: They don't get any better than this! Summary: 5 Stars
I came across mention of Porcupine Tree on the DGM King Crimson site a few years ago. As the band was praised and I was a long term fan of KC, I had to check PT out. Now I'm no youngster at 55, but the first album I heard, In Absentia, blew me away. It was some of the best new music I had heard in a long time. Completely unexpected, it blew me away. It was very nice finding a new band like PT and their music has given me hours of pleasure, including this dvd. These guys rock just as good live as they do on record. I enjoy everyone in the band very much, but was surprised at Gavin Harrison's abilities on the drums. And John Wesley was nice to have on hand for the tours though he is not a member of the band. So, if you haven't gotten this yet, treat yourself to some great Steven Wilson and Company.
Movie Review: seeing is believing... Summary: 5 Stars
For those of us with the misfortune of being unable to see this prolific band in concert (or if so, only rarely), this dvd is the next best thing. The band plays just as tight live as in the studio, and the "concert experience" is quite rewarding audiovisually. For fans of PT this purchase is a no-brainer. For those new to this phenomenal music, I highly recommend it. The music itself is difficult to categorize, and to do so would only be a disservice to their musicianship and the scope of their sound. You really have to see/hear this band to appreciate them.
Movie Review: great concert footage for a great band Summary: 5 Stars
This DVD captures the way it is to be at a Porcupine Tree concert. The video is fantastic and makes you feel as if you were there. The audio is excellent as well - I'm going to rip the audio out from the video to have it to listen to without the need for a DVD player. The recordings will last as a tribute to Porcupine Tree and their 70's style alternate rock. If you are a fan of the era (Genesis, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, and so many of the classic bands from those early 70's era, then this is the DVD for you.....
Movie Review: Awesome DVD! Summary: 5 Stars
The only thing I love more than Porcupine Tree is watching them perform live. This show is amazing, although I do with they would have performed a couple other tracks from "Stupid Dream" (but hey the show was 4 years ago so keep wishing right?)
The camera always seems to be where you would want it to be, and they sound just as good live as they do on CD. The extra disc is forgettable but that aside this DVD is awesome! Can't wait for their next album!
Movie Review: Fantastic Summary: 5 Stars
The concert is just phenomenal. The fact they did "Mother & Child Divided", "Buying New Soul", and "So Called Friend" is amazing unto itself. But then you have the second disc, with a couple Rockpalast videos, some of the films used for the backdrop screen during three of the songs, and Gavin Harrison's "Cymbal Song".
Absolutely awesome DVD. If you're a fan, you have to at least see this.
