Movie Reviews of Porcupine Tree: Arriving Somewhere

Movie Review: Get this and play it LLOOUUDD!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Ive been a PT fan since Lightbulb Sun, when they were the opening act for the Dream Theater Tour. I actually saw them live at San Francisco in a moderate venue during the in Absentia summer tour, before the CD was actually released. Therefore i was glad Blackest Eyes, The Sound of Muzak and Buying New Soul were included in this DVD, since these songs were played that time. I must say the fact that Deadwing was not included was a bummer for me, wouldve liked that fabulous bassline thumping the hell out of my subwoofer. However this DVD captures how great the band is live, and the sound mix is phenomenal, theres no closer thing to what they sound like live. Other great songs are The start of something beautiful, trains (clams included), and the non-album tracks, so called friend and mother and child divided. In conclusion: GET THIS & PLAY IT LOUD, and when you do, tell your friends to come over and enjoy, they wont be dissappointed.

Movie Review: An outstanding show and an outstanding DVD
Summary: 5 Stars

I had the pleasure of seeing PT about a year before this show at the Park West and also had the high pleasure of being at the first night of this DVD shoot. The Park West is an excellent place to see this kind of music. The layout of the seating and the accoustics make it one of the premium concert venues in the country. PT put on a near perfect show that night. The band is in top form and they perform all the cuts with a certain excitement. We took a friend and an Uncle in their 50s to the show as their first exposure to PT live. They both were old school prog fans (with the likes of Rush, Floyd etc...) They were astounded by the quality of this band and the show they put on. They have not stopped talking about it since. I would say that the DVD lives up to it's potential 100% the video is clean (the cuts can be a bit too fast), but the audio mix is simply superb. Rush could learn a thing or two about DVD mix from this show...

Movie Review: Excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

This DVD has everything you may wish for. I have successfully managed to get numerous friends interested in Porcupine Tree just by showing them some songs from this DVD.

Production is excellent, with fantastic audio in stereo or surround (except for "The Start of Something Beautiful" in the stereo mix, which unfortunately has the vocals mixed a bit too far to the background), and interesting live footage treatment by Lasse Hoile that adds to the atmosphere.

The band is in excellent shape and performs some of their best material of the time mixed with daring and great re-interpretations of older material. Especially "Hatesong" is mind-bogglingly excellent.

If you like Porcupine Tree, this is a must-have that you will never regret buying. If you don't know Porcupine Tree yet, you may start liking them based on this DVD.

Movie Review: Saved on a Saturday...
Summary: 5 Stars

If Steven Wilson were to come up to me and spit in my face, I would continue to buy whatever he puts out there. My limited edition came to me on Saturday. I grabbed a 6 pack of Blueberry ale and retreived my smokables and blasted this DVD through my fine stereo system. This is one of, if not the best live DVD's I have ever seen/heard. It brought me back to the night last October at the 9:30 club in DC where I witnessed them for the first time. This DVD was longer than the show I saw. You can't help but wish it was a double live DVD (the 2nd disc being non-live material). Even so (or Even Less), the set list is superb and executed to perfection. The production and mix are stunning. When RUSH are no longer recording and touring, PT will be my favorite active band, period.

Movie Review: Porcupine Tree is an Unbelievable Band...
Summary: 5 Stars

I First got turned on to this band when watching a documentary DVD on the band Opeth which Porcupines Tree's singer/guitarist mastermind (Steven Wilson) was the Producer of their albums (Damnation, Deliverance, and Blackwater Park, all must have CD's in their own right). I picked up a couple CD's of theirs on Ebay, and I was hooked. I've since bought everything they have put out and there is not a bad disk in the lot. Start with In Absentia and Deadwing, they are probably the two best.

Back to this DVD. It was filmed in Chicago, and it has a very good selection of their best stuff. Sound is excellent, Video Editing is good, not to much jumping around that gives you a headache, like on alot of other DVD's I've seen. Just go buy this, you won't regret it.
