Movie Reviews of Poolhall Junkies

Movie Review: Surprisingly good
Summary: 4 Stars

A street-wise talented pool player missed his opportunity to play in the big time as his mentor decided that he's better off husting money from the downtrodden. So, the movie fast-forwarded to 15 years later when he's no better off despite that he's got a well-to-do paralegal beautiful girlfriend, a poolhall owner who treated him like his own son in the shape of the late Rod Steiger, a loving brother with a bunch of friends who aspired to be like him. By chance, he discovered that all these years, his mentor betrayed him by witholding the truth from him. The relationships soured & they went separate ways. As fate had it, his brother got tangled up with his ex-mentor & he had to play pool for the one last time to save his brother & his honour. The movie happily chugged along & Christopher Walken played the mysterious chap who backed the talented player & helped him to believe in his own self. The message that this movie tried to say is simply: life is what you made it to be. If you keep thinking that you are a loser, you are bound to end up with losers like yourself whilst if you believe that you are a winner, you can escape from the vicious cycle & be someone truly great. Definitely a feel good movie with no pretension. Highly recommended.

Movie Review: Rockin
Summary: 4 Stars

It's always a good time when Christopher Wanken is in a movie. It's safe to assume that this is pretty much the selling point of "Poolhall Junkies," which is unfortunate. While Christopher Walken always is up to potential, there's more to this movie that a cool older dude.

The acting is not great all around. Most of the actors are really anything but, which is fine because the script is so compleatly entertaining, it really doesn't matter.

The plot is pretty simple. Great pool player gives up going pro for a more realistic dream, also because his girlfriend thinks he can do better things with his life. However, once his brother gets in some hot water with them mob, he's forced back to being a poolhall hustler.

All in all, it's a really good time.

Movie Review: Watch this movie and your life will improve. No, really.

If you dig the whole interaction of a well oiled machine-like crew of witty, bantering guys too young to yet be jaded but playing in grownup world then this is for you. I LOVED the back and forth in the dialogue between the buddies. And they're just the backdrop material. The conversations between everyone were just gutter poetry. Chazz and Christopher are right on the money with everything about themselves that I like to see in a movie. The lead character is in control even when he's OUT of control. There is a smooth flow to this flick that makes me think of the perfect Seven and Seven. Goes down easy and you're glad you ordered it. Had a nice seedy feel to it whenever the action was in the poolhalls. This film makes you wish you could hang out with these characters for just one night.

Movie Review: Love this Movie
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this for the second time!! I love this movie. It is a great movie--plot kinda lame, but full of clever one-liners and great billiard action! Christopher Walken is great in this movie. The primary star is also the writer and I believe he directed. There are a couple other big stars in this 'B' movie, such as Michael Rosenbaum-from Smallville, Chazz Palmenteri, Rick Schroeder, and Alison Eastwood- Clint Eastwood's daughter. Poolhall Junkies lives up to its name featuring a lot of billiard action. Love this movie! I get all my friends and even family to watch it and they all love it too!

Movie Review: Not a bad pool movie
Summary: 4 Stars

I liked the movie a lot. I think that the acting was good and Walken was a great fit in the roles like Chazz too. It may have lacked a little in the dramatics but overall the dialogue and the the poolhall atmosphere was portrayed nicely. If you are a huge pool buff or a huge pool movie buff, this may not be high on your list but still it is very well made and honestly could have been worse. Makes me wanna get a "hustler" shirt and head down to my poolhall looking like a badass.
