Movie Reviews of Poolhall JunkiesMovie Review: Under-rated Summary: 5 Stars
Some of you people are unbelievable.
This movie was great. The acting wasn't bad, like some are saying. Walkin was not the main part in the movie, but not a dull-character.
Callahan did good, he is a REAL pool player, all of the shots were made by him, and he did an excellent job.
There was only one screw up in the movie, and it's been pointed out. John (Callahan) tells Mike (Walkin) that he had blue chalk on his pants, and they return to a red-felted pool table - highlt unlikely. Other than that, there are no flaws at all.
The plot was not unbelievable. I have seen games range from $5 - $75,000 per rack. Therefore, that's not an issue. The only thing that could have made this movie better are better camera shots, and more pool playing. Other than that, this movie was perfect.
Movie Review: My number one movie of all time Summary: 5 Stars
While I don't know a whole lot about pool, as a movie this one stands out above almost all others to me. It's probably the fact that the characters in the movie are very similar in several regards to me and my friends, we're all around the early to mid 20's mark, but this movie was something that to me could be taken right out of real life and dramatized into this (too?) brief movie. Sure, there are things no 'real' huslter would do, there's some loose ends and some of the escapades are a bit outlandish, but its all very entertaining and not entirely outside the realm of possability and the music is perfect, bluesy to fit the mood of a guy in the somewhat sketchy parts of an inner city trying to make it by and earn few bucks and respect from others and for himself while finding out who he really is.
Movie Review: Poolhall Junkies Summary: 5 Stars
This film was an excellent film, without question. Although there were a few shaky elements at times (the acting was faulty for only several scenes, but good for the rest), the movie still manages to maintain a perfect level of attention. The pacing is well set, the storyline is believable and well-guided, and the dialogue, while possibly not utterly sophisticated, was believable as well. Coming from a first time director (maybe second) who also wrote and starred in the film, it is an excellent effort that deserves attention. And to say that this film was a rip-off of "The Hustler" or "The Color of Money," as someone wrote earlier, is ridiculous. Just because it's about "pool" or "hustling" doesn't make it the same. Go to film school and learn something, or else stop writing reviews.

Movie Review: Well Awl-Right! Summary: 5 Stars
This movie was awesome. We went in knowing nothing, with only the urge to see a movie and a complete lack of options. Having already seen everything that was of note, we decided to go for it. I being a fan of what I like to call new age cult films was oddly intrigued. Count me impressed. It had a storyline that moved, entertaining characters, that you want to come out on top; very interesting cinemotography (which often makes or breaks a film for me) and as far as I could tell, nothing in common with everything else we've seen this year. I can see some people not liking the movie simply because of it's style. It reminds me of something out of the James Dean era. Very Good.
Movie Review: This movie was like Alchemy...Turning lead into gold!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Budget of $4 Million...Gross according to IMDB, $57 Million...
Listen, I didn't know who Director Mars Callahan was. By the way he is the main character Johnny. I don't know who the production company, Gold Circle Films is...
I heard about this film from a friend, who at the time just happened to be into pool and saw it because of that...
I must say that this movie is AMAZING!!! Enter Christopher Walken, Chazz Palminteri and Silver Spoon's own Rick Schroeder along with a large cast of people you will "recognize" but can't name and you have a Cult Classic that you have to have in your library!!!
