Movie Reviews of Pooh's Heffalump Movie

Movie Review: LOVE THIS MOVIE!
Summary: 5 Stars

I liked this movie! I read the review A roo movie and i liked it. I love this movie!

Movie Review: For child this is a definite 5 for an adult a 2.5-3 -overwelmingly cliched, commercial
Summary: 4 Stars

I cringe as I watch my children watch this on DVD yet again. Not that it is an offensive movie, it is just that as an adult is not not wildly appealing to me, and certianly to one who knows the pooh books well.

So getting this straight. My 4 and 2 year old love this movie - to bits. They talk about 'lumpy' and roo who are the main characters of this movie. I don't think they understand many of the main themes of it as yet but they enjoy the colours (which are pastelish mostly), the appealing drawn characters, and the music. Which is I assume why when I ask them what they want to watch they want to watch this.

I really don't like it much. I think it is watchable, just. But while I really enoyed movies like Aladin which were also written with adults in mind and so is quite fun to watch. I find this excruciatingly sentimental.

The story is all about a suspected Heffalump in 100 acre wood and Rabbit organising a heffalump hunt. Roo wants to take part but is too small - even if he does find the only clues to where it is. So Roo goes off on his own hunt and finds the Heffalump - clearly to be made into a soft toy of appealing softness to market with the movie. Roo and the Heffalump learn about each other's worlds and that they have both been warned about them - Lumpy is scared of the creatures in 100 acre wood, and Roo is (of course) afraid of Heffalumps. Roo takes lumpy back to meet his friends, but they aren't there. Then through problems and misunderstandings Lumpy gets trapped by the Rabbit, Piglet and co when they think he has captured Roo.

Roo has an accident and falls in a large hole and it is only Lumpy, who trumpets up his mother, who saves the day.

The themes of friendship, fun, sharing and understanding are very nice and I have no problem with my children learning these. It seems a shame that AA Milne's original Pooh Stories need to be 'improved' like this.

Averaging out between what my kids think and what I think it rates about 4 - highly watchable for them, just bearable for me.

Movie Review: Very sweet and sure to please
Summary: 4 Stars

As I write this, my two kids and I are sick and I searched the video store for an appropriate video for my almost 3 year old and almost 5 year old. I got this on a recommendation of a friend with similarly aged children. My kids are not big Winnie the Pooh fans, but I hoped that this short movie would hold their attention. And, it did. My 5 year old was transfixed and my 3 year old even liked it through her fever. From an adult's point of view, I found the movie quietly pleasing although I have to admit I did not follow it closely. The music was nice, Carly Simon's songs were great, although some reviewers (on a different site) found them treacly. There was nothing scary in the film which is a big plus. The movie's pace and volume are to be commended too - nothing too loud, and no fast, seizure-inducing animation that is found in so many kids' programming. No pop culture references or humor for adults that is present in so many Disney films either. If there were embedded messages of tolerance and anti-xenophobia, fine. I didn't find them sneaky or too much. Probably went right over my kids' heads anyway. And by the way, Lumpy's voice is just adorable! I think this movie is just right for little kids.

Movie Review: A Great Lesson on the Dangers of Prejudice for Children and Adults
Summary: 4 Stars

This film is not just a typical children's cartoon, or even the usual Winnie the Pooh story. After years of fearing the dreaded Heffalumps who live on the other side of the fence in the Hundred Acre Wood, Roo finally encounters one in the form of Lumpy, an adorable young Heffalump. While the two become friends, they both discover that each of them has been fed a lifetime of prejudice about the other, and lived in fear of the unknown.

The film gives a great lesson about the dangers of prejudice, and the innocence of children to break through the irrational fears of adults. (Or, in this case, Pooh and the rest of his friends). This is one film marketed for children that parents will not mind watching over and over with their children. It is very well made, has a great story and wonderful original music by Carly Simon. It is rare these days to see a full-length cartoon with a lesson, and not just slapstick.

Movie Review: Great movie for all ages.
Summary: 4 Stars

We (my two daughters and I) just watched this movie and this is one of the best Pooh's movie. Lumpy is so adorable. The friendship between Roo and Lump is so touching. Everything about this movie is great except for Carly Simon's annoying voice during one scene (did not match the cute mood). The lyrics were good but the music and voice were terrible. Disney should have left her out of this great movie. This movie is a 4-star because of the poor choice of music.
