Movie Reviews of Pooh's Heffalump Movie

Movie Review: Pooh's Heffalump Movie
Summary: 5 Stars

This was an excellent movie, I enjoyed it thoroughly! It's quality definately surpasses "The Tigger Movie"! I'm not qualified to judge "Piglet's BIG Movie", however, as I did not see it. Here are some of the movie's main points.

Music/Soundtrack- Carly Simon took care of this. I love her voice, it's so unique. If I may be so bold, she has a tone not unlike Phil Collins. The songs were well-written and prominent within the movie, without sacraficing the plot and turning it into a strictly musical production. I will pat Disney on the back for this!

Animation- Wonderful! Colorful...I love that. And, it's all hand-drawn! I do not shun any computer-animated movies(I love such movies as Spirit and Shrek), but hand-drawn has always been the animation style for Pooh productions, and I thank Disney for keeping it that way. They did especially good on the Heffalumps. Watch earlier Pooh movies(which, unfortunately, I cannot name), and you will see how much they improved over the older drawings. These are new editions, and I welcome them.

Plot- Ahh, this is the base for all good movies. Such newer productions(Example: STAR WARS II) sacrafice special effects over a good plot. What good is kick-butt action without a story? NO GOOD! But this wonderful, if rather short, movie has a good story, which most decent people will delight in. You may think your children will not be able to grasp it, but sit down...and you may be suprised! 5 star plot...and I'm only semi-sappy.

THE BAD- Hmm, this movie is pretty much free from "THE BAD". Thank goodness! It seems like more and more kids movies ARE "THE BAD"! Awful, isn't it? Well, rejoice! Because this movie is "THE BAD" free!! There may be certain issues you may need to resolver with very young children, as every child is individual...but you don't have to worry! This movie is kid-safe without a HINT of adult humor in it...which I also love. I most certainly don't mind a kid's movie being appealing to adults, but so-called adult humor is often unessecary and RUDE. THE END. Overall, definately a good movie for children. Please keep in mind, however, that every child(person) is an individual and may differ. So please, while reading these reviews, do not think of them as THE GOSPEL, but do consider them. Remember, sometimes experience IS the best knowledge. Well, I should really stop talking like a phycologist now....plus my review is getting too long.

Summary of Pooh's Heffalump Movie

Straight from the theaters, it's a grand scale animated feature that is as exciting as it is charming, where friendship, understanding, and adventure abound as Winnie the Pooh and his friends learn that things are not always as they appear. A quiet day in the Hundred Acre Wood quickly grows mysterious when a strange sound echoes through the trees -- a sound that can only be . . . a Heffalump! While the friends devise, Roo sets off into the Wood and discovers a Heffalump named Lumpy. To Roo's great surprise, Heffalumps are quite friendly and playful. After meeting Lumpy, Roo wonders why the others are so frightened and why Lumpy is so afraid of Roo's friends. Upon discovering their new friendship, Roo and Lumpy's loved ones realize that Heffalumps are nothing to fear at all. Filled with humor, heart, and Heffalumps, this warm and wonderful adventure is great fun for the entire family.
Pooh's Heffalump Movie introduces a lovable new character to the Hundred Acre Wood. When mysterious noises spook Pooh, Piglet, and the others, Rabbit explains that everyone will have to band together to track down the dreaded Heffalump. Well, everyone, that is, except Roo, who's too small for the task. Not surprisingly, it's Roo who makes first contact, and he quickly finds out that first impressions aren't always true. You can see the Big Messages coming from a mile off (Xenophobia is bad! Don't underestimate little kids!), and one moment of mischief curiously passes without even requiring an apology. But kids will be charmed by the Heffalump and may even connect with the empowerment/maturity themes. Among the voice cast, Jim Cummings does knockout impressions of Sterling Holloway and Paul Winchell as the voices of Pooh and Tigger, respectively, and Carly Simon's songs are at their best when she sings them herself. --David Horiuchi
