Movie Reviews of Play it Again, SamMovie Review: Good but no Annie Hall Summary: 4 Stars
Over all this movie is well worth watching, but sad to say I saw Annie Hall before this movie and had high expectaions, not to say there wasnt funny moments in this movie, My favorite was where Allen was dreaming about kissing Diane keatons character and her yelling I'm a married woman, RAPE.... don't ask me why it was funny but it made me laugh. Another funny moment was when Allen(woody) was on a first date with a sex addicted woman and when allen jumps on her (after she's explained that people should have sex as often a possible) pushes him off and says "what do you take me for?"accually writing this review made me reconsiter ill give this one a 4
Movie Review: Woody Allen when he was funny!! Summary: 4 Stars
you can get the specifics from other reviews. here is my take.
This is the middle part of a tripple feature.
First Watch Casablanca - it doesn't come any better than that
then
Watch Play it again Sam. the Bogart impersonator that talks to Woody does a good job. Woody is a movie buff. He plays a movie critic without any stretch. Diane Keaton is her awesome self. The dialogue with Casablanca as a reference is poignant and funny.
Then
Watch When Harry Met Sally. You'll be glad you did. it also has references to Casablanca.
Movie Review: Woody's best funny film Summary: 4 Stars
After Take the Money and Bananas but before Annie Hall, this movie is Woody at his very funniest but with relationships and personal growth as themes nicely holding the jokes together.
I have seen this movie maybe 20 times and still laugh. Plan to show it to my teenage kids.....I really think they will laugh and enjoy it too. Diane Keaton is sooo young. Woody is so comfortable making fun of himself. Also can not believe how many "jokes", lines, from this movie that I have been using these past 30 years plus........."I was no where near Oakland!"
Movie Review: Slapstick Woody Summary: 4 Stars
I think this movie represents the height of Woody's slapstick period. It also contains perhaps the funniest five minutes ever put on film (meeting the blind date). Diane Keaton and Tony Roberts are solid as always and the Woodman is forever the comic genius. His timing is impecable, the dialogue is instantly quotable. It's just great to see a master at the height of his comedic powers. I certainly think that some of his later works are "better movies", but I don't think any of them are as funny.
Movie Review: Laugh Out Loud Funny Summary: 4 Stars
Play It Again, Sam, written by and starring Woody Allen is just plain hilarious. Full of sight gags and tremendous one-liners, this is Woody at his "slapstick" funniest. Diane Keaton is great as Woody's friend and advisor. They have an excellent chemistry. The movie takes place in San Francisco, and is full of excellent imagery. Fun and fast-paced, this is a 4 star Woody Allen film well-worth the minor time investment (85 minutes).
