Movie Reviews of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's ChestMovie Review: Another Action Film for Your Collection Summary: 5 Stars
Do most tourists choose to plunge down the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disney Land? Yes they do. Most movie viewers will then enjoy the Pirates of the Caribbean film as much, if not more than the ride, because of the excitement and tension. If moviegoers believed that Pirates of the Caribbean Curse of the Black Pearl was a fantastic movie, then they surely will enjoy Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest, the sequel. Inspiring this thrilling action movie, The Pirates of the Caribbean theme park attraction played a big part in both Pirate movies. The director of this movie is Gore Verbinski, and the producer is Jerry Bruckhimer. The main actors in this movie are Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly. The actors are outstanding! Because of violence, and frightening images, the movie was rated PG13. Unexpectedly, Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest, is a whopping two and a half hours long. Despite the length of the pirates movie, every second is worth seeing to any movie-viewer.
Captain Jack is back! Captain Jack, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan have returned for another suspenseful, thrilling, classic pirate adventure. While Captain Jack is a clever adventure-loving pirate, who always lands himself into dangerous predicaments, he always finds clever solutions. The movie is set in the fourteen or fifteen hundreds, after the discovery of America, because pirates still existed in those times. In the movie, there are numerous picturesque settings. Some of these settings include the greasy grimy bar in Tortuga, the increasingly slimy and sickening deck of the black pearl, the revolting deck of the Flying Dutchman and the beautiful island inhabited by cannibals. Traveling all over the world to shoot the movie, the film making crew voyaged as far as to Saint Vincent, Dominica and the Grand Bahamas. Predictably, all this effort went into making this film an instant classic. It is.
Jack, as usual, is in trouble, and has dragged Will and Elizabeth into the thick of it all, because of twists of fate. Jack has a debt to deliver to Davy Jones, although Jack is not going to acquiesce to this agreement without fighting for his freedom. Despite Jack's dire predicament, Will and Elizabeth have problems of their own. The leader of the East India Trading Company has requested Jack's mysterious compass, which Will is trying to retrieve. Shockingly, the situation becomes real when Elizabeth is forcefully locked in prison, destined for the gallows, if Will fails his task. Finding Jack, Will journeys with him to the Flying Dutchman. Once there, Davy Jones informs Jack, that he can either serve as a deck-hand on his ship for the rest of his life, or he must deliver him ninty-nine souls. Jack has other plans. Jack sets of on a desperate voyage to find the dead man's chest, which is rumored to contain the beating heart of Davy Jones. Although, getting the chest will not be easy. Davy Jones has sent the Craiken to destroy Jack, and anyone who comes in its way.
In an attempt to escape the Craiken, Jack urgently stops at an island, because the Kraken can only destroy him while he is in the water. Ironically, Jack has doomed himself by landing on an island of cannibals. Cleverly, Jack tries to persuade the cannibals into idiotically thinking he was a god, however this horribly backfires on him. When the cannibals were convinced that Jack was a God, they decided to eat Jack to obtain some of his divine power. Jack escapes and finds the chest on a deserted island. The heart of Davy Jones changes hands while Jack tries to fight off the Flying Dutchman's henchmen, who are attempting to obtain the heart on Davy Jones orders. Thinking he carried the heart, Jack sails back to the Flying Dutchman to bargain with him. Jack realizes too late, that someone else had stolen the heart. Who has the chest now? Will this blunder cost Jack? Will he forfeit his life?
This is a superb and humorous action film. Possibly, this movie is as breathtaking as the original. The actors in the movie were outstanding. Because of their convincing emotions in the movie Jonny Depp and Keira Knightly were particularly good. There are multiple sword fights in this movie. Entertainingly, the choreography of these scenes are superb. When prepping and preparing for the movie, the actors preforming these sword fights practiced their techniques up to eight hours every day, because their sword techniques had to be realistic. The story line of the movie is superb and suspenseful. Introducing mysteries, and new questions, the director of the movie cleverly planned the movie to conceal the ending from viewers until the official end of the movie. What more will Captain Jack have to endure? Buy this movie! Famous television personality Larry King commented about this action film, stating, "Finally, a movie worth seeing over and over again!"
Summary of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's ChestFrom Disney Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the strong suit of the franchise, as the film excels during its stunt pieces, which are impressively extravagant (in particular a three-way swordfight atop a mill wheel). It may help to know that Dead Man's Chest was filmed simultaneously with some of Pirates 3, so don't expect a complete resolution (think more The Empire Strikes Back) or the movie will feel a lot longer than it really is. Bloom shows a tad bit more brawn this time around, but he's still every bit as pretty as the tomboyish Knightley. (Seriously, sometimes you think they could swap roles.) Bill Nighy (Love, Actually) weighs in as Davy Jones and Stellan Skarsgård appears as Will's undead father. But the film still belongs wholly to Depp, who in a reprise of his Oscar-nominated role gets all the belly laughs with a single widened eyeliner-ed gaze. He still runs like a cartoon hen and slurs like Keith Richards--and he's still one of the most fascinating movie characters in recent history. --Ellen A.
