Movie Reviews of Pink Floyd - PulseMovie Review: It will come out! Summary: 5 Stars
Two nights ago I was at the Kodak Theater to witness the BEST concert of 2006. David Gilmour's "On an Island" stop in Hollywood, CA. It was amazing! 3 hours of music: 1 hour of "On an Island" beginning to end and 2 hours of Pink Floyd, with everything from Dard Side, Wish YWH, and even a "blast fromt he past" as a rendition of See Emily Play. It's funny, except for the drummer this is the **same** band that played in 1994 the concerts that are going to be on the Pulse DVD: David Gilmour (guitar and vocals), Richard Wright (keyboard and vocals), Jon Carin (keybords), Dick Parry (sax), Guy Pratt (bass), plus the addition of Phil Manzanera on guitar. The LA date was particularly exciting as David Crosby and Graham Nash came on as backup singers on both the solo and Pink Floyd tunes. It was great! Anyway, the interesting tidbit regarding The Pulse DVD is that the concert program has the following quote on the page that includes David's BIO, and I quote: "... A live album and video, Pulse (soon to be on DVD), followed in 1995."
So, wait a little longer until September.
An if you can go to the Royal Albert Hall to see Roger, it's a cannot miss concert.
Movie Review: magic Summary: 5 Stars
The first concert that I ever attended was a pink floyd 'concert'at the electric factory (which at the time was a former tire factory),on market st. in Philly in the mid seventies, or somewhere around there.Having been almost knee to knee with Roger Waters for the duration of about two hours, I had been converted. I saw them almost every time they came to Philly, including the concert where the fans dispensed with fences and swarmed into the arena - but who could blame them?
Pulse is the best music/light show concert that you will ever see.
Everything is perfect - the lasers are gorgeous, the effects and movies are simply stunning, fresh and innocent. Wenright displays his guitar godhood on this video beautifully. Imagine what a genius Gilmour is, and then imagine who he would hire for a guitarist - the guy would have to be pretty good, wouldn't he? For me, this concert crystalized everything that was good about progressive rock up to that time, and still hasn't been surpassed or even equaled.
The quality of the DVD is exceptionally crisp, the sound amazing.
If you love the floyd, you probably already have this.
Movie Review: David Gilmour Explains the Delay of Pulse on DVD Summary: 5 Stars
Why was the Pink Floyd Pulse DVD release delayed yet again? Hear the truth from David Gilmour himself.
David Gilmour Speaks! from the May 2006 issue of Guitar World magazine (Vol. 27/No. 5), "Shine On" an interview by Alan Di Perna. The following is a full quote from the interview concerning the Pulse DVD release (pp.96-98):
"GW: Speaking of live shows, why is the Pulse DVD coming out later this year, some 12 years after the Division Bell tour?
GILMOUR: It was out on VHS long ago. We had a lot of technical problems converting it to DVD. It was shot on video rather than film, which I now think was a mistake: it doesn't look very good when you enlarge it on a big screen television, which everyone seems to have these days. We'd been investigating all sorts of ways to digitally enhance the footage.
By the time we'd surmounted all the problems, it was way too late to make our November or December ['05] deadline. I didn't see any point in putting it out at the same time as my album (On An Island), so I asked that we put the release back until September".
Nuff Said.
Movie Review: Does it blink? Summary: 5 Stars
Does the package blink? Is it built-in with strobe lights and blinking neon? Because WT#? There is simply no good excuse for the delays this DVD has gone through. Although I do see it as convenient for David that its coming out now that his album and tour of On an Island is over and done. Hey, I LOVE David, and saw the man play OAI at the Rosemont in Chicago, but he IS a staunch capitalist who knows how to milk the money off his fans. Sorry, but thats just the blatant truth.
Can't wait to see Roger Waters this fall. God loves Pink Floyd.
Oh, and as for this concert: probably by far the greatest stage production a rock-concert has ever had. And David's playing is very ON, his band is great. Tim Renwick is a top-notch guitarist, giving perfect background chords, and has some great solos. ABITW is done very well by Mr. Renwick. Also worth noting is the spectactular, beautiful crew of backing vocalists including the great Ms. Sam Brown whos Great Gig in the Sky solo is simply unparalleled. Sends shivers up my spine the way that lil' English girl blazes out those vocals. HMM. Enjoy it... whenever that happens.
Movie Review: PULSE Well Worth The Wait! Summary: 5 Stars
When I learned that the PULSE concert DVD was getting a first-rate upgrade, I was excited when I saw that they are FINALLY putting the screen films on the DVD as a seperate item, so we can watch the wonderful visuals contined in them. I have seen many concerts in the last thirty-years, and BY FAR, PINK FLOYD was the absolute best. They define presentation in performance.
The most notable thing about the PULSE show, and what makes it a historically important musical event, is because it was the first time the entire DARK SIDE OF THE MOON album had been filmed in concert performance. This is the concert of THE DIVISION BELL tour, which was a great show.
The goodies on this DVD set make it a MUST-HAVE for even marginal fans of this band. It provides a document as to why they are considered the masters of theatre rock. PINK FLOYD is NOT just a concert, it's an experience.
The technical surround 5.1 mix on this title approximates the spatial orientation as if the viewer was seated in the center floor, about twenty rows back.
This is a CANNOT LOSE title, all the way!
