Movie Reviews of Pilates for Weight LossMovie Review: DVD For All Levels Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this DVD to learn Pilates and lose some weight, and I could not be happier.
As other reviewers said there is a wide range of material on the DVD that is broken down into various levels (and times) so you can progress all by using one DVD.
One thing to make sure is to watch the lessons for each level, the instructor tells you how the moves are made more challenging and introduces new moves that you will be able to do, plus alsso mentions other general tips. The reminders also will occur in the workouts, but the foundations are in the lessons.
The pace is good and there are periods of rest in the routines as needed. At the beginning I found myself pausing the DVD for a bit at the rest places, now I do not have to and am in position for the next move as it starts. It is perfect.
I am now up to the intermediate level, though on some days I go back to the beginning to brush up on things.
The instructor is wonderful, clear and precise in the instruction and paces the workouts well for the levels.
All in all highly recommended.
Movie Review: Comprehensive Summary: 5 Stars
This DVD, together with eating smarter, has helped me lose weight. The DVD is laid out so it is easy to follow and learn and takes you from beginner moves, through intermediate and than onto the most challenging.
There are genera lessons at the beginning of the DVD outlining Pilates principles and also the history of Pilates.
Each of the sections has their own main instruction area. In this Karen shows you each of the moves and how they are modified to make them easier. Moves that appear in easier levels become less modified as you advance and additional moves are added. Having the lessons like this was nice so when doing the routines the focus was on working out and not teaching - reminders and cues in the routines were there but unobtrusive. Very good cueing and pace.
Then there a selection of routines to choose from. If you do the moves like she explains you definately feel the workout, even on the easier level. I have been using this DVD for awhile and moving into thee second level and it is nice to have it all on one DVD.
Movie Review: Very Good Summary: 5 Stars
I don't think you could want more from a Pilates DVD. This one offers 15 Pilates mat workouts split over 3 levels of difficulty - Beginning, Intermediate and Challenging. Each level starts with a good lesson where the instructor takes you through each pose you will see new at that level. (This is done with a student and provides a demo, verbal instruction and close ups of specifics on some poses.)
The routines do not stop for teach as many DVDs do. You are provided with cues and some reminders. This is a welcome change to the usual video instruction format. (If you have a problem with any poses, go back to the Lesson.) This DVD would be an excellent choice for anyone just starting Pilates as well as anyone who has already has a little experience. It is an excellent value even if your starting point is beyond the Beginning level. Just find the level appropriate for your experience. I started in Intermediate and I've been using this DVD 3x a week for about 7 months now. This one will stay in regular rotation for sometime.
Movie Review: Very Good Pilates Instruction Summary: 5 Stars
This DVD is working very well for me, I am new to Pilates and a bit overweight so the combination was just what I was looking for since it has three levels, so I can use it for quite awhile, and also get in better shape.
Karen is a very good instructorm and as mentioned by others she has been directly trained as an instructor from the experts (Romoana).
Anyway there are three main sections Beginning, Intermediate and Challenging that has a variety of workouts an d variations. Before going into those, I recommend watching the general lesson for the DVD, then each lesson for each level as you reach it.
Each section/level builds on the last one by adding more things and making the things you learned a bit more challenging/less modified. Some really nice things include routines that you can use weights and other items for further workouts.
I'm very pleased with this and recommend it to my friends.
Movie Review: Great Pilates Program Summary: 5 Stars
I was interested in toning up and improving my posture and overall, just feeling better in my everyday activities. So far this has been a great program. The Beginner section was too easy for me so after a couple times I moved to the Intermediate and have been doing those routines about 3x a week for a few months now. Follow the cues, pay attention to your alignment and if you do it right, wow, you feel it and see the results faster then I expected. I've never gotten this kind of look in my midsection, butt and legs from any workout, not even hundreds of crunches and squats. Best of all, Pilates really feels good. This DVD would be good for anyone who's a real beginner or people in better shape who might have done some Pilates before. The pace is very comfortable and appropriate for each level. I've tried a couple of the Advanced routines. They're still a bit too hard to me but I'm looking forward to working up to them.
