Movie Review: Picnic
Summary: 5 Stars
A pungent slice of Americana with a bleak, desperate undercurrent. Though Holden is slightly old for the role, he still turns in a credible performance. Kim Novak in her debut role is all budding sexuality disguised as wholesome innocence. Supporting players are varied and uniformly fine, including Robertson, Rosalind Russell, Arthur O'Connell and Susan Strasberg (Lee's daughter). This movie is certainly one of the best of it's time. Still great viewing today. But what makes this film one of the best ever put on film is the scene where Kim Novak comes down the stairs to the song "Moonglow" to dance with Bill Holden...What a great scene. No nudity. No bad language. In fact no talking at all. This is a must see for anyone who enjoys a truly great and sensuous movie.Movie Review: Full-Screen...YES!!!

I LOVE the fact that this DVD is a FULL-SCREEN version! I don't know why the studios that produce these DVDs don't come out with discs that are full-screen on one side and wide-screen on the other, like my version of 'Cat On A Hot Tin Roof' and 'Forbidden Planet' are! I'll take FULL-SCREEN any day!
I wasn't going to buy this film until I realized it was full-screen.

Got this DVD specifically for the song "Moonglow". I saw the movie "Picnic" when it first came out in the fifties. The scene where Kim Novak and William Holden dance on the dock to "Moonglow" I'll never forget. It was so romantic. I guess the song/movie made a definite impact on me and when I hear it...it reminds me of when I was a kid. (before movies were rated)Movie Review: CLASSIC

If you are a film and theater buff, Picnic by Elia Kazan is a must. Not like romances of today it is perfect. If you don't like classic movies, buy this one anyhow.
