Movie Review: I finally found it here!!!
Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this version when it originally aired in 1990. I have been searching for a copy of it ever since. I couldn't find it on VHS or DVD. Then finally came across it here only to be told that it was currently unavailable. I waited another 2 years before it was offered again. I am so glad to finally have a copy of my own!!! This version of POTO is basically outlined after the classic, but the similarities end there. In this version the Phantom (Eric) we learn who he is and where he came from and a background more palatable than the book. The relationship between Christine and Eric grows over time and you have a love triangle worth watching. Charles Dance gives the Phantom a heart and gives the character depth and feeling. He's not just a murdering monster obsessed with his student. I like the fact that is has a beginning, a middle and an ending. It ties up all the loose ends and the opera is sensational. If you like the story, you will really like this particular version.
