Movie Review: One of the best bible movies, ever.
Summary: 4 Stars

This is one of the best bible movies ever made. Yeah I know, it's a made for TV movie, so it has some of the cheesy sets, make-up and other aspects of the 1980s TV movie genre. It is for these reasons I gave it 4 stars. BUT, the script is brillant and the acting superb. The dialogue throughout the movie incorporates the book of Acts as well as the epistle writings and phrases of Peter and Paul making the New Testament come alive. Anthony Hopkins is great as Paul, but Robert Foxworth is greatly under-used as Peter. There are many now famous actors throughout the movie that will surprise you. As a person who loves reading and studying the bible, I highly recommend this DVD. It will only enhance your understanding of the bible.

Movie Review: Excellent Portrayal of Paul
Summary: 4 Stars

Anthony Hopkins is obviously a great actor, and his portrayal of Paul is no exception. His portrayal at first of Saul and his subsequent conversion experience are outstanding, and really show the depth of commitment Saul had to his Jewish heritage. The best scene of the movie is when he is lying blind several days after being confronted by Jesus on the road to Damascus, and Ananias comes in to find him quietly reciting the Psalms. It is a very moving scene. Much of the dialogue is taken straight from Acts. As some reviewers have noted, the portrayal of Peter is weak by comparison. Also, the DVD is not in widescreen format, and there is no surround sound track. Thus not a full 5 stars. But great story and well told.

Movie Review: Interesting Perspective
Summary: 4 Stars

I enjoyed this portrayal of Peter and Paul. Although there was some extrapolation of Biblical events recorded in Acts, the video did highlight a fundamental controversy of the early church that continues to this day: How do Christians deal with Jewish traditions/teachings/roots? While I would have preferred a tighter script to the Bible, I was reasonably entertained by this account and would recommend it's viewing and consider it a rare departure from most of the garbage Hollywood puts out.
