Movie Reviews of Peter & Paul DVDMovie Review: Peter And Paul Summary: 5 Stars
This video is EXCELLENT. Anthony Hopkins (Paul) & Robert Foxworth (Peter) are at their best acting. This religious, biblical video is fast paced and true to biblical teaching. This video does not linger & over indulge on various scenes or happenings in the video. This is an original made for T.V. mini-series from a STANDARD commercial station. This video demonstrates that regular commercial stations can make superb productions when, willing, just as good or BETTER T.V. productions, than "cable" channels. The story writing is brilliant. The cinematography and production values are sharp, right up there, with the best of other top-notch programs from "cable" channels.
This video will please viewers of all kinds. It is a very riveting video. The photography is outstanding. The supporting cast is right on the money. Those who are familiar with the biblical stories & backgounds of Peter & Paul, will enjoy it very much. Very worth the value & ownership. You will want to watch it over & over, again. A real FAMILY experience.

Movie Review: A well-done, reasonably accurate portrayal of Peter and Paul's ministries Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great movie and probably about as accurate a rendering of the actual events as can be expected. The bulk of the story is drawn from the book of Acts and from Paul's letters. Some of the content (e.g. the deaths of Paul and Peter, as well as Peter's time spent in Rome) comes from sources outside the New Testament, though I couldn't tell you where.
There are some departures from the Acts narratives, but none that I would consider significant. Most are done, I think, to bring consistency to Paul's message. The whole bit where James declares "no restrictions" for Gentile converts during the Jerusalem meeting is a good example. Certainly Acts portrays the sequence of events here rather differently. Yet Paul's letters convey his total commitment to a theology where God's grace is completely sufficient. And this understanding of Paul becomes really evident during this section of the movie.
The parts are all well acted, particularly by Anthony Hopkins. It's a long movie -- 3 hours. But definitely worth watching from beginning to end.
Movie Review: Anthony Hopkins gives a great potrayal of Paul Summary: 5 Stars
I think that Anthony Hopkins gives a terrific portrayal of Paul (not that I've ever met Paul....:)
He brings a lot to the character that I have never really considered in reading the Bible. He does a great job at "humanizing" Paul. Paul was such a tremendous apostle at the start of the Christian church. I think Hopkins has given to us, in this film, a look at Paul that truly shows his human side. I tried to understand what might have been Paul's "thorn in the flesh." Maybe it was his arrogance (as he stated himself). I've always thought it was possibly some physical impairment but after seeing this movie, maybe it has more to do with pride, etc. An interesting perspective.
Anyway, I highly recommend the movie. It shows some of what the Bible describes of the relationship between Peter and Paul. The film stays pretty close to what the Bible describes (certainly taking a little artistic license) in filling in some places. Even that though is done very well.
Movie Review: A Masterful portrayal of the men of the early church!!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Forget the fact that this is considered a "B" picture. Forget the fact that it came out in '81. Matter of fact, if you've heard anything negative about this fantastic movie, forget that too!!!
These 2 actors, especially Hopkins, are absolutely wonderful in this movie about the early church & its martyrs. And the music: keep a box of kleenex near you, especially at the end. Warning: the water's gonna flow. Hint: when Peter is taken away, turn the volume UP. (Foxworth is great here, just great.)
This movie, for any flaws the experts will say it might have/has, will make you feel proud you're a Christian. It will educate you, on a gut/feeling level, about the cost these men paid to be loyal to their Lord. If you are a Christian or wanting to learn more about the apostles or the early church, treat yourself to the "B" movie....ah.....B stands for beautifully & wonderfully architected. You're gonna FEEL it.
Movie Review: Peter and Paul Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this video for a friend who is still familiarizing herself with Scripture. Personally, I've found some of Paul's books to be a challenge: 1 Corinthians for example. This excellently dramatized portrayal of the life of Paul (and Peter) cast a whole new light on the Apostle Paul. It made his life make sense to me and therefore some of his admonitions to the churches had more relevance. Then there's always just the joy of having Anthony Hopkins and Robert Foxworth together in a 3-hr movie! Reasonable price, excellent production. I have most if not all, the Bible character videos which have been filmed. A couple of them are good. Some are outstanding and I'd rate Peter and Paul in this category.
