Movie Reviews of Performance

Movie Review: 'arry Flowers is waiting for you
Summary: 5 Stars

Other than the peculiar omission mentioned by Mr. Lucas in his review in Video Watchblog ( the missing "here's to old England" toast in the Memo From Turner sequence) this DVD is the real mccoy: the voices of Johnny Shannon (as Harry Flowers), John Bindon (as Moody), and even young Laraine Wickens (as Lorraine) are here heard as they were meant to be heard--with their actual voices, not as they had been later dubbed. This is a gorgeous widescreen transfer: if you're simply curious about this legendary film don't hesitate to buy this DVD; and for the rest of us who've been relying on a variety of earlier VHS versions of different cuts of this fine film--take the plunge, this is a real treat: a bright, clear transfer that also incorporates a number of (brief) new snippets, supported by a trailer, a featurette, and a short contemporary feature on Jagger's Memo From Turner performance.

Movie Review: This Performance is totally AWESOME!
Summary: 5 Stars

Just forget all the other Mick Jagger flicks you've seen. This one is beating them all. Because it's Jagger playing himself: a super-duper cool rock star. Aside from that the movie has countless other great parts that make him a truly great cult film: 1. the very cool gangster story at the beginning of the film (this comes from someone who's no big fan of gangster or mafia movies). 2. the amazing soundtrack (the old vinyl lp is selling sometimes for 500 bucks!). and of course, 3. the hypnotic surreal atmosphere that starts when Chas is entering the world of Turner (Jagger). This DVD deserves to be watched more than once cos everytime you watch it again you might find something else in it which you had missed before. It's a milestone!

Movie Review: First Class
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw the original about 4-5 times from 1970-1971.. This one is not much different, just modestly.. I had been attempting to purchase this flick for 30 years, but was unable because the Studio (Warner Bros.) refused to release it under any format.. I was thrilled that it was finally released, and have since been watching it with many friends.. Most had no idea this movie was ever out.. I was particularly interested in Anita Palenburg, she has really changed over the last 38 years.. The content may be a bit provacative for most (Sex and Violence) but the quality are extraodinary for that era.. This one is a must for anyone..

Movie Review: THE BEST ROCK AND ROLL FILM, period.
Summary: 5 Stars

finally, the day has arrived, the dvd version of "performance". having never seen the original cut, owning the VHS version, i am absolutely spellbound to read that this is the original dubbing (having always thought that the little girl's voice was annoyingly incongruous) and am excited beyond words to see that it also includes other wee extras...maybe not as many as it deserves, but some.
this is in my opinion, the greatest rock and roll film ever made, and maybe even one of the best films ever. its my favorite, anyway.

Movie Review: Mick at his Best!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an old 'cult' film that has always been one of my favorites. It's also Mick Jagger in his prime and at his best and an excellent 'period' film superbly capturing the 'feeling' of the late 60's early 70's scene.
I was THRILLED to find it on DVD; I had a $69.95 VHS tape before which, to put it politely, never looked very good.
If you want to explore late 60's avant garde this is a good vehicle; if you grew up with this movie it's great nostalgia.
