Movie Reviews of Penelope

Movie Review: Modern fairy tale
Summary: 5 Stars

Ok, I had been waiting to watch this movie for a long, long time. The release in my country's theaters has been delayed -again-. So, I decided to get the DVD instead...I congratulate myself, lol. This is such a sweet story, the performances are delightful and the entire atmosphere works amazingly. Ricci's Penelope is endearing -if this character had been played by any other actress it could have not worked at all- in her hands, Penelope is absolutely adorable. James Mcavoy delivers gold -again!! he seems to REALLY be able to act all genres masterly- and the rest of the cast surely will draw a smile in your face. If you are in the mood of a well told empowering romantic tale, this is for you!

Movie Review: Cute Modern Fairytale
Summary: 5 Stars

Plot: A modern romantic tale about a young aristocratic heiress born under a curse that can only be broken when she finds true love with "one who will love her faithfully."

This was a cute movie and I enjoyed it a lot. It is something the whole family can watch. The only thing that might be disturbing is in the beginning when a servant commits suicide. It goes by quickly and the narrator states that she fell. So, younger kids won't pick up on it. The plot is predictable. All fairy tales are, so I can't really fault it for that. It follows the procedure delightfully though. The cast is great and the mother played by Catherine O'Hara is priceless.

Movie Review: Get over yourselves people!
Summary: 5 Stars

Cliche this, cliche that, geeze folks, this movie wasn't going for the cutting edge, Oscar winning fairytale. It is a sweet movie with a sweet message. Catherine O'Hara is fabulously funny, and Christina Ricci, whose acting I am not fond of, is actually likeable in this movie. The ideals of beauty (both male and female) step away from the mainstream Megan Foxes and Zac Efrons. My 2 and 5-year old daughters fell in love with the movie as did I, but I guess watching it through your children's eyes suppresses our own adult cynicism and expectations of entertainment. I'm always happy to sit down and watch it with them.

Movie Review: Lovely from start to finish!
Summary: 5 Stars

I really, really enjoyed this movie. I don't buy movies often, but after I saw this movie in the theater I just knew I had to own it. Girls have so many toxic "role models" thrust upon them and sadly they end up hating and starving their bodies at very early ages. Penelope is a movie all about learning to love yourself just as you are, and girls definitely need more of those positive messages nowadays.
From a technical aspect- the movie is visually stunning. All the colors pop and it really contributes to the fairy tale feeling of the film. This film has a little something for everyone in it.

Movie Review: Penelope is a delight
Summary: 5 Stars

Penelope is a delight of a movie. Witty and clever in the retelling of a well known theme, the Princess and the Frog. In this case it's a 'frog' or should I say 'pig' princesses job to try and get herself loved for herself to break a curse. This modern princess has better things to do then wait around for Mr. Right and she wants to just experience life. It's a sweet telling of the story with a host of delightful characters helping her along the way. I watch it over and over and just enjoy the journey. I think you will enjoy the journey too.
