Movie Review: The Colorful & The Absurd!
Summary: 5 Stars
Not ever being a fan of "Pee Wee Herman" (Paul Reubens), I found myself very surprised that I enjoyed this movie when it first came out on VHS and several viewings since (including on DVD.)
Despite Pee Wee's stupid character he's still a likable guy and the movie is outrageously funny, and a good early example of the visuals be would be seeing for years by director Tim Burton. This was Burton's first "hit" movie.
Once Pee Wee gets on the road looking for his missing bicycle, the story gets rolling and has some memorable stops on the way: large dinosaurs, his famous "Tequila" dance, "Large Marge" and other assorted strange scenes, all of which are very entertaining.

Wisely, they keep the story simple so as to concentrate on the characters: Pee-wee's most prized possession, his shiny new bicycle, is stolen, and he sets off on an obsessive cross-country journey, determined to recover it. Pee-wee's awkward and childish attempts to be cool and mature ("I meant to do that!!") are hysterical, as when he tells his girlfriend (Elizabeth Daly): "There's things about me you don't know, Dottie. Things you wouldn't understand. Things you couldn't understand. Things you shouldn't understand.... I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel."
