Movie Reviews of PaulieMovie Review: A DELIGHTFUL FAMILY FILM Summary: 5 Stars
Lost in the shuffle with BABE, PAULIE is a marevelously entertaining, heart-tugging little film that I found thoroughly entertaining. Paulie (well voiced by Jay Mohr, who also plays Benny) is a talking parrot whose adventures are relayed to a Russian immigrant (the marvelous Tony Shalhoub). After being booted out of the house of his owner, the young Marie, Paulie is taken in by a widow (splendid Gena Rowlands) and has other misadventures including a brief stint as a singing parrot with Cheech Marin. Bruce Davison (Willard, Longtime Companion) is the scientist who goes back on his promise to help Paulie locate his Marie; Trini Alvarado has a brief but important role in the movie's climax. But it is the ingenious voice casting of Mohr and the strong presence of Rowlands, Marin and Shalhoub that makes PAULIE such a delightful film for the whole family!!!
Movie Review: Paulie Summary: 5 Stars
I am a parrot owner, and loved the movie. Even non-bird fanatics will enjoy this family movie. It's captivating, touching, and children and adults can equally relate to having learning difficulties while growing up, having a pet as your best friend, to losing loved ones and romantic relationships that didn't happen as we had hoped. Throughout all of Paulie's adventures with the different characters in the movie, you're always rooting for Paulie and that he'll find his "Marie", and the ending leaves you with a "feel good" feeling. I highly recommend this to anyone, and especially bird lovers. It made me look at my parrot(whose been with me for 28 years) with a renewed sense of wonder and respect for her intelligence and wondering what's she's thinking even though she doesn't talk like Paulie!
Movie Review: lets hear it for the boy Summary: 5 Stars
I sat at my computer as my son watched Paulie, which I thought was going to be a silly.; stupid movie(ie amazon has it paired up with mouse hunt as a combo deal) . At first it did seem like a typical goofy talking animal thing...but at some oint I found myself glued to the piece...this is a movie that can be kind of dumb, but also dares to be smart, sensitive entertainment. There are great contributions throughout, funny lines, and a sentimental moment or two. The tone of the movie is much more reverant and lovely than I thought it would be. Again, if it wasn't for my son, these movies would never exist is my psyche....this is a nice little movie...let's hear it for nice.
Movie Review: A great family movie! Summary: 5 Stars
"Paulie" is a sweet movie and perfert for a family video night! The parrot tells such a wonderful story of love, loss, trust - and the breaking thereof - that there are many 'moral of the story' moments! Gena Rowlands is wonderful in showing that no matter the age, or circumstance, we all have adventure within us! It may be hidden under fear and friends (in this case, Paulie) can help us 'stretch our wings'. The man who stars in this, currently seen on the t.v. show "Monk", did a wonderful job in his intent listening and resolve to help this bird - his friend. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who wants to spend an evening just 'kicking back' and enjoying a good story.
Movie Review: Paulie Summary: 5 Stars
I really love this movie. Paulie's life story is very sweet and touching. It looks at the different relationships he develops with the people (and animals) he encounters on his many journeys. He is essentially on a life long quest to be reunited with his first owner, a little girl with a speech impediment. He meets many people, some unsavory, some helpful and kind, some selfish, some colorful, along the way that makes this an endearing movie that moves me to tears at points. There is some language that is not appropriate for children although it seems to be geared towards a younger audience. I think adults will also find this movie fun, funny and touching.
