Movie Reviews of Paris When it SizzlesMovie Review: Do not take a switch to Audrey! Give her flowers! Summary: 5 Stars
I love it when my personal evaluation runs totally contrary to the consensus of movie critics. For example, I treasure the deliciously uber-campy, but critically maligned, film, "Death Becomes Her." And whereas many critics have seized upon a convenient rhyme to opine that this film "fizzles" (in the song "I Love Paris," not used in this movie, "sizzles" is paired with "drizzles"), I must decree that I totally disagree, and moreover proclaim (here, I'm taking aim) that this delightful comedy is not "slight" but rather takes "flight!" (That would be a switch on a switch!) This film has a converging parallel plot structure (take that for an oxymoron!) and a script within a script that's a hoot! It's a charming tongue-in-cheek satire with a heart. Is it fair to accuse William Holden, whose character has such a low regard for actors, of wooden acting? Of course it's fair, because that's the point! Just as it is fair to accuse Audrey Hepburn of overacting! (See the balance?) I love this film, and if you don't, well, there's always Paris!
Movie Review: There are no words... Summary: 5 Stars
Oh wait. There are! Can we say "classic"? Okay, maybe not "classic" in the classical sense of the word, but this has to be one of Audrey Hepburn's best movies, if not simply for the comedy. The first time I saw this, I was on vacation in Hawaii. I laughed so hard, I knew I had to see it again. I rented it three times before my mom finally bought it for me and now I can't get enough of it. My friends and I quote it all the time and, despite the strange looks from the people who don't understand, we love it.Audrey: On Sundays, if I was a good girl, I would get to feed the giraffes! William: Don't tell me you had giraffes as a child too! It doesn't get any better than this duo. I mean, they have such chemistry that they can pull off a kiss 4 minutes into the movie (yes, we counted)! Great! If you are looking for a movie to watch, this will work any day of the week. It's better with friends though, because the laughter just increases. So rent or buy...just watch!!
Movie Review: This One's A Sizzler! Summary: 5 Stars
'Paris When It Sizzles' is a funny, light-hearted masterpiece that is made even better by the two brilliant stars, Audrey Hepburn and William Holden. Holden plays a famous writer who hires Hepburn to be his typist. But she is not too pleased when he reveals to her that he has not written anything yet, or even thought about the story line! So with only two days to get the script finished, the couple set about coming up with a plot, adding romance, twists, humour, switches, switches on switches, and switches on switches on switches! The script is then brought to life by the imagination of Holden and Hepburn. With Holden playing the main man, and Hepburn playing the main girl. And also other roles played by Tony Curtis, and a cameo from Audrey's husband at the time Mel Ferrer. This is an enjoyable film that won't leave you asking any questions. It is one Hepburn and Holden's best. Definitely not one to miss.
Movie Review: As fluffy as a cloud. Summary: 5 Stars
Paris When it Sizzles is one of those films that is pure escapism and fluff and I loved every second of it. A lot of people dismiss films of this genre but when it is as witty and well acted as this one you just gotta love it! Holden and Hepburn reteam here; their first movie was Sabrinia and this time he gets the girl. The plot is simple, writer is blocked and hires a typist played by Hepburn who with her smile and elegance quickly becomes Holden's muse. The movie takes you all over Paris in beautiful colorful images and breathtaking cinematogrophy. Holden has always been a screen presence in it's highest power his rugged looks and stattaco voice makes him the ultimate movie star and Hepburn is their to match him in every way as his female equal! This film is the best way to spend a rainy sunday or any day for that matter!
Movie Review: Quirkyand Cute- I love it Summary: 5 Stars
I love this movie because it is so different yet totally captivating and funny. The Paris backdrop is genius and the costumes and hair are fantastic, but what makes the film most interesting is just how random and fun it is. It's not a movie where you observe the acting or study the plot, because there hardly is one here, but it's a nice break from the more "civilized" comedies of the era. Overall, I would highly recommend it to any Audrey fan or anyone who just wants to watch a goofy old movie starring one of the worlds most beloved and (mostly) serious actresses
