Movie Reviews of PapillonMovie Review: McQueen excellent Summary: 4 Stars
McQueen carries film beautifully. One of his finest performances.
The real story behind the story is that Henri Charriere, who wrote the novel the movie is based on, "borrowed" heavily from what other convicts' lived through, and one in particular--the real Papillon, who died in France a couple of years back.
Don't get me wrong, Charriere did his share of time on Devil's Island, it's just that not everything that takes place in the film actually happened to him.
Author Gerard de Villiers delves into it in a book entitled A BUTTERFLY PINNED.
Movie Review: Papillon Summary: 4 Stars
This is one of those classiv movies that you can't just forget as it happened to me. I have always wanted to keep this movie following my watching it three times in a row at sone stage back then.
The movie also me me to become a fan of Dustin Hoffman who co-stars with the equally talented and popular Steve McQueen.
Papillon is a story of perseverance, determination, pain, guts and glory.
Movie Review: 3 stars out of 4 Summary: 4 Stars
The Bottom Line:
Papillon runs a bit long at 150 minutes and doesn't bother to characterize McQueen's character enough, but it's a solid piece of entertainment that should appeal to anyone who likes prison flicks or well-made movies in general.
Movie Review: It's a good, old McQueen Film. Summary: 4 Stars
I had fond memories of seeing this film when it first came out. I recently read the book Papillon, & wanted to see it again. Obviously, the book is better. I dig McQueen, & Hoffman does a good job here, too. It's well-worth the price.
