Movie Reviews of Paper MoonMovie Review: A road picture with a twist Summary: 5 Stars
A wonderfully entertaining movie set in the 1930's in Kansas. Ryan O'Neal plays a two-bit con-man who gets roped into transporting a 9-year-old girl (played by his real-life daughter Tatum) to relatives in St. Joseph, Missouri, after her mother dies. Tatum is wise beyond her years and the two team up in scams on the road. They have their adventures and grow to love and need each other. It's a fun picture, with the '30's setting perfectly captured in music and great b&w photography. Tatum won an Oscar. Definitely worth a watch.
Movie Review: Paper Moon Summary: 5 Stars
This is a classic movie for many reasons. This movie will be studied by film students for many decades to come. For the art of filming in Black and White, the total in focus both foreground and background, that helps tell many facets of the story. A 9 year old girl or boy would not be allowed to do their own stunts in this day and age. Tatum O'Neal was there from opening shot to the final shot of her running for the car. Tatum O'Neal is the movie. The Academy gave her an Oscar, and for good reason.
Movie Review: Stunning Collaborative Work Summary: 5 Stars
Everything comes together--direction, writing, casting, cinematography, performances, music...right down to the last prop-- for this triumphant picture by Peter Bogdanovich and Company.
The Director's Commentary track is fantastic and will probably entice you to put Bogdanovich on your list of "Most Sought After Dinner Party Guest." His stories are as entertaining as they are enlightening.
The O'Neals and the late Madeline Kahn...all perfection in this timeless classic.
Movie Review: HEAVY SIGH Summary: 5 Stars
Could not wait on this movie to arrive! And it was and is STILL one of my favorites. It just reminds me of my Father and I. Not that we EVER argued as such, but that we just liked to "hang".
He's not as enthusiastic about watching ANY movie more than once, but I'm going to take some time and make him sit down with me to see it again. After all, I have to watch all those crazy sports with him when I visit.......I mean, it's only fair! Don't you think?
Movie Review: Great film, transfer Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great film that has been given excellent treatment in the transfer and packaging. I've not watched the extras, but the feature is a wonderful story from the Depression. Beautiful black and white, silver-rich image. Hats off to the transfer work on this title. If you enjoyed "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?" you'll like this film. The music is wonderful, but not in the bluegrass vein, for the most part. The settings are similar, however.
